Everyone on this board seems to favor oatmeal. Funny, when my older son was born everyone said wait on oatmeal! From what I know, oatmeal can be slightly harder to digest, and they also say to wait longer due to the allergy factor. But, rice is not nutritional, so many people don't think there's any point to starting it.
We're starting on happy bellies brown rice with probiotics.
We tried to give our dd rice cereal and it made her tummy really upset, so we tried oatmeal and she is doing much better with it. Not totally sure what the difference is.

The reason is that it has great fiber and DD really seemed to like the flavor over the rice. Also, the rice backed her up horribly in the poop department. We started mixing in some oatmeal with her barley and DD showed a preference for oatmeal.
So, we are doing a tad bit of oatmeal in her sweet potatoes now just to transition. She gets an ounce of sweet potato, with an ounce of formula mixed in & a scoop of oatmeal. Stir, stir and serve!!! She is very happy and her poop issues seem to be resolving itself, no more drama to poop!
