A has a nasty headcold - coughing, congested, having trouble breathing and nursing at the same time. She was struggling to breathe laying down in her crib, so we spent the night with her curled up on me in the rocking chair.
Any suggestions? How long does this usually last?
Re: poor, snotty little baby
Colds suck! Pedi says they can last about a week.
Here's what we do: regular humidifier (not the cold mist one, the hot mist one worked much better for him, we just kept it far away from him), a Vicks insert in it when he was really bad, elevate the crib mattress slightly (they have wedges for that, but you can use a blanket or books under the mattress), play with LO in the bathroom with the shower on as hot as it'll go so it gets steamy. Lots of saline nasal spray.
A few more you might want to try - you can put Vicks on your chest and hold her, or if you don't like it on your skin, put it on a tube sock and pin it around your neck so she gets the vapors. You can also put it on a bib and attach the bib to her crib (out of reach) for vapors.
She'll probably eat less more often, because of the stuffy nose. When J is sick, all bets are off. Any way he sleeps is how he sleeps, whether it's in the car, on me, any way he's finally comfortable.
I hope A feels better soon!
Try puttin a regular bed pillow under the mattress (at the head end) so LO is at a slight angle with the head elevated. It helps the sinus draining. Ditto the humidifier. Saline drops/spray work. Also the bulb syringe to help suck out/clear the nasal passageways. I found a J&J baby wash for colds (it's a greanish color). It works like the Vicks with the vapors (or that's my guess, we haven't needed it yet). Take LO in the shower with you and let the steam help loosen things up.
Call me crazy! I squirted BM up Bo's nose! He hated it! Within 2-3 completely better! Also, I would nurse her as much as you can (she may not be interested but the extra antioxidants will help).
Get well soon baby A! Based off of your siggy pic she has places to go
sooo cute!
I know it is like the windex of organic fluids! It also has lightened my stretch marks ( from my gigantic boobs milking all over) and cleared styes from my eyes!
