18lbs 4oz - What percentile?

At DD's 10 month appointment her weight was 18lbs 4oz which is only 1 lb up from 2 months ago. I think she was 50th percentile before but just trying to figure out what her current percentile is. I didn't write it down and thought pedi said 50th but that doesn't sound right... I feel like she didn't grow much the past 2 months (weight or height) and I'm wondering if I should be concerned. She's very healthy and pedi didn't say anything but is that normal growth over a 2 month period? What percentile does it put her at now?

Re: 18lbs 4oz - What percentile?

  • According to my pedi their weight gain is supposed to slow as they become mobile. So she may still be in the 50th.

I am on my phone so I can't look up a chart, but I'm sure you could google it easily.

I tried googling it and it seemed like it was closer to 25th percentile. Not sure if I'm looking at the wrong chart or what but if that's right that she dropped from 50th-25th in 2 months, is that an issue?

  • We just had our 10 month appt and my DS was up only 5 oz from 2 1/2 months ago. I was really worried too but the pedi was not concerned at all. Weight gain slows between 6-12 months according to kellymom.

Dont know about %tile since my LO has always been off the chart. :)

  • Based on the chart the Pedi uses she looks close to the 50th percentile. Im on my phone so im having trouble figuring it out exactly. (I got the chart from the AAPD website since that my home base, but it's the same thing)

  • My LO was the exact same weight at his 9 month appointment last week and I thought the Dr said 15th percentile. I definitely could have mistaken 50th for 15th though.
  • According to Baby Center's growth chart calculator, 18lbs 4 oz. at 10 months puts her somewhere between 10th and 25th percentile.  (They give broad ranges rather than exact percentiles.)  If she was 1 pound lighter at 8 months old, she would have been between 25th and 50th percentile then.  So it's not a terribly huge drop in percentile.

My LO is chunky and has always been on the high end of the growth chart, but she only gained a pound between 8 months and 10 months and dropped from 80-something to 60-something percentile.  The pediatrician wasn't at all concerned.

So it sounds perfectly normal to me.  No need to worry!  I'm sure your pedi would have said something if he or she was concerned.

  • My LO was the same weight at her 9 mo check. She only gained 15 oz in 3 months. She dropped from 50% to 25% on the chart for a breast fed baby girl. My pedi had zero concerns, she didn't even bring it up, I did. As pp said, she explained that BF babies plateau on weight gain around this time and gain more slowly, plus you have to factor in how active these kids are.

  • At DD's 9 month appointment she was 19 lbs 1 oz and in the 55th percentile.

  • I have the Dr. Sears app on my phone, which has a growth chart. I inputted your info, and it says she is in the 21st percentile.

  • Unless your doctor has expressed concern or you lack confidence in your doctor, there is no reason to worry (especially since you said that she's very healthy).

  • Isaac has dropped in percentile at just about every appointment since 2 months (he was very big then though). The pedi said at this last one that when babies get mobile they start thinning out. And if your LO is breastfed, that's another factor at this age. On the WHO chart the 50th percentile is about 19 lbs at 9 months for girls.

  • C only gained 1 pound 4 oz between her 6 month and 9 month appointment.

She was 16lbs 14oz at 9 months and they said that was 16th percentile.

They weren't worried at all... said BF babies slow down now, plus when they get more mobile they slow down.

  • At 5 months Avery weighed 20lbs 4 oz, at 9.5 months he weighed 20lbs, 3oz. Pedi said it was completely normal. He started crawling at 6 months and is super super active. He has gotten a lot taller, but no weight gain...
