Approaching 1 Year TTC mark...

Hey Ladies,

I am approaching the one year of ttc and planing ahead on what i need to do next. Id like to start with an SA for my DH - however, where do I make the appointment for him - with my obgyn? or just our family dr? or do we need to book it with an RE (my friend has already recc hers)

Should I make an appt with my ob/midwife for the one year mark? Is that just a regular office visit or will they take blood? etc?

Yes that's all part of the initial testing.

I went into my OB for other things and while we were there we discussed my upcoming 1 year mark (also June). She decided to do cd3 blood work since she was checking my thyroid anyway. She also said she was going to send a letter to my insurance to see what they cover for "infertility" testing. She said the steps are generally blood work first, then SA and Hsg, and further plans based on results. I was taken back by the infertility comment and decided to do blood work only since I gave a family history of thyroid and fibroid issues but I am choosing to wait until 1 year to do anything else. She said we could do the initial testing with her and then go to an RE if we choose/if it's necessary. Obviously if I need meds I'll be going to the RE.

Do you have IF benefits? If not, I would go to your OB to get the orders for SA, HSG, CD3 b/w. Otherwise, paying out of pocket to see the RE just to order the tests, then going back to discuss the results can be pricey. I did all testing through my OB (except HSG) because of this and had them fax the results to the RE, so my first consult was comprehensive and she had all the info she needed for diagnosis, treatment, etc. Especially if it takes a few months to get into the RE, you can have all of this done and out of the way and hit the ground running.

As far as choosing your RE, if you have a lot of options, I would make sure they are in network, board certified, https://www.socrei.org/AffiliatedSocietyMemberSearch/ and check out their CDC ARTs page https://www.cdc.gov/art/ARTReports.htm. Not that you would need IVF, but I used it as a judge of how successful the clinic is as a whole.

I hope you don't need to go!

My AF is supposed to come tomw or saturday... watch i end up with a bfp after going through all these phonecalls and forms! hahaha... yea right.

None of the bolded makes sense. If you do not have other issues indicating a need to be seen sooner, why are you not waiting until the 12 month mark?

True but it just irritates me to see someone acting like this is okay. You probably should ignore me though, I'm in a cranky mood and am extra irritable today.
