Re: Hot names of 2012 (article)

  • I honestly don't see the -ett boy names becoming popular, but I could totally see a rise in the name Rue!

I guess I should get used to the name Emmet, but man, I dislike it.

Yuck.  I don't think I could ever get used to it.

  • Been loving Aria lately, most likely due to Game of Thrones.

  • I figured Ivy would be on there. Ever seen Beyonce and Jay-Z named their baby Blue Ivy I am liking the name less sadly :(

Interesting that Blythe was on there. I have seen that mentioned a few times on this board.

  • I hate to see a trend in WEST names :( I really dislike West and Weston but DH and I were considering Wesley. I thought it was rather underused.

  • I like Adele and Blythe but none of the others.

I do not get the appeal of Gray-, Ash-, West-, or East- names at all.

  • I absolutely LOVE Aria and Everett!
  • While I wouldn't choose a one of them, I'll take any of the ones on that list (except maybe Cato and Rue) over names like Kinsley.

I do think it's interesting how the article breaks down the reasons for popularity.

There are a few I like mentioned in the article, most I would never use ? simply guilty pleasure names.

Emmett, Everett, Gray (not Grayson!), Atticus...
Rue, Primrose (Prim), Adele, Adelaide, Gwyneth...

I have noticed the -etts a lot on this board, but haven't actually looked up the stats on the SSA. Bennett, Beckett, Everett, Emmett, Garrett, Rhett...

I also feel like I see Ivy and Estelle more than I used to. Not a fan.

Absolutely hate the West- names (Weston, Wesley...). I don't get it at all.

I feel similarly. Love Gray (but it's a family name - not Grayson!). Not sure I'd ever name a child Rue, but it's a cute nn. I've also been noticing these trends on name forums more but am uncertain of how they are playing out in the larger population.

  • I love the name Rue and I think it makes an even better nn. Don't think I'd ever use it, but I love it.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • I don't get Rue.  It has such a negative connotation to me "You'll rue the day!"

I like some of the others, but probably would never use them.
