And I'm a bit confused. The u/s tech showed me my left and right ovary and started counting these black circles. She called them something follicles and said that each cycle, one of those follicles gear up to ovulate. I had like 15+ of them in one ovary and 8+ in another so I'm really really curious as to what these are! (You'd think I'd know this by now :-/) help?

Re: Back from baseline u/s and bloodwork.
Antral follicle?
WOW, 15 and 8 is great! These all won't develop into eggs, and if you are doing IUI you don't want them to, but this is definitely promising! I'm so excited for you!!
Yes! Antral! Thank you!
Uh yeah, my husband is less educated about this than me so he was happy when I told him but I said that's not a good thing. Unless we want to be the next Jon & Kate, we just want 1-3 total.
Thanks! I'm excited too!

Ditto MBandBud - those are antral follicles and that's a GREAT count!! (coming from someone who never had more than 8 or 9).
Each cycle you have a group of eggs "recruited" in your ovaries. In a natural cycle as your hormones (estrogen) rise only one of them will become the front runner and eventually be ovulated when your LH surges.
With a medicated cycle they encourage more than one of those eggs to mature so that you have more targets.
Antral follicle count is one of the markers used to gauge female fertility and your number is great!
GL this cycle!!!
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Thank for this! I get it now.
Hopefully the Clomid will give a couple of them a push to ovulate. I take the medicine tonight and my next u/s is Monday so we shall see!
Thanks for your help, girls
