Pregnant after 35

Spotting ?

I have been having very light spotting for about a week.  It shows up about once per day, not a lot, dark brown in color.  I've had some light cramping, but not coordinated with the appearance of the spots.  I've been googling, and I'm reading that it could be nothing or everything.  I guess the best thing to do would be to call my dr and get my hcg levels checked?  I called this morning to schedule a prenatal, but they won't do that until 8 weeks.  I didn't mention the spotting because it hadn't happened sine Saturday at that point.

Re: Spotting ?

  • I would call the doc. The information you found was very right, it could be nothing, or it could be a miscarriage. At 6weeks pregnant, they wouldn't see much on an u/s anyway, but they may do one to see what's there. Or, they may just send you for labs to see if your Hcg levels are where they should be for 6 weeks, but I'd call for sure.

Fingers crossed that it's nothing to worry about (FWIW, I've known lots of people that spotted or even bled around 6 weeks and went on to have perfectly healthy babies. Having been there myself, on the not so lucky side -twice - I know better than to say not to worry, so I'll just send hugs, and hopes for you to have answers soon)

  • I agree with Adi. If it makes you feel any better, I had spotting with my both of my pregnancies and I have never had a m/c. Granted, I'm still pretty early in my second pregnancy, but I knew not to worry too much this time.

  • Ok...first...STOP GOOGLING. In pregnancy, Google is NOT your friend. As a caution, it's a little too early to see a HB, so an US may not be done. But, spotting is common in pregnancy. Call your OB. They can check your hormone and progesterone levels. I spotted non-stop from 6w3d until 8w3d. It stopped just as suddenly as it started. Sometimes is was dark red. Sometimes brown. Sometimes bright pink. Sometimes red tinged mucous.

That said, it could be a sign of miscarriage. Only time will tell. GL, and T&P your way.

  • Could be nothing.  If you are not having any other symptoms would not be overly worried right now.  Just try and rest and drink plenty of fluids.  If cramping or heavy, red bleeding starts, call OB right away.  Best of luck to you!!  Keep us posted!

I had brown spotting before my BFP and on and off my entire pregnancy. It was light pink at times, too. I also had cramping the first few weeks of my pregnancy (until about 6 weeks). I hope it's nothing.

And I agree, Dr.Google is NOT your friend.
