had 2nd U/S today... not sure what to think

so on 3/26 we had the 1st u/s... all we saw was gest. sac and yolk, we figured my timing was off. today, 2 weeks later, we had the 2nd... a bigger gest sac, and still a yolk sac that she said seems to be shrinking? no fetal pole that the tech could see but she wasn't 100% sure, we have another scheduled for 4/23... and i have my first OB visit on 4/20. i've been going to a women's resource center for the u/s.  i'm not sure what to think. or if i should try to get my appt moved up at the OB?  i should be about 7w4d maybe 8w4d depending on ovulation. i also have been very very slightly spotting light/dark brown for 3 days now... not even enough to stain, just there on wiping (sorry if TMI) i guess i'm just a little worried. we TTC for 2 years and this is our first. any of you been through this or something similar?

  • I am sorry that you have to be worried about this. I would call my ob and insist on another ultrasound or blood counts. I *think* that you should have been able to see more if you are around 7 weeks and maybe even be able to hear a heartbeat.

  • Please don't mind me butting in here, but I feel like I can offer something (although it's probably not what you're looking to hear).

Last summer I had a m/c.  I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum.  Basically, the sac continued to grow, but there was no baby.  It's a fluke thing that can happen to anyone, but luckily, very rarely ever happens to the same person twice.  Anyway, you should def call your doc.  Explain your worries and how long you have been trying and they will probably get you in sooner and maybe run some extra blood work.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that this baby just likes to make you worry and that every thing just fine.  Feel free to PM me, but you'll have the best luck finding me on the Dec 2010 Moms... GL!

  • I'm not sure what to tell you, I haven't experienced this-- except the spotting. I know how scary spotting is, but try not to focus on that. A LOT of pregnant women have spotting that turns out to be totally normal. Plus, brown spotting means that you bled somewhere, possibly your cervix got irritated (happens easily), but that the bleeding is not current. Brown = old blood. So try to relax, take it easy. I'll send T&Ps your way that everything turns out ok :)

  • I'm so sorry, this must be so stressful for you.  Unfortunately, I think the fetus should be fairly easy to see by 7 weeks 4 days, but I'll keep hoping that maybe the u/s tech missed something.  I would definitely at least try to get the ultrasound moved up--due to the situation, I think they would probably work with you.

  • I'm going to be blunt - it's quite possible it's a blighted ovum. However, to give you some hope as well - it's also possible that you have a tilted uterus (fairly common), and that can mean it takes longer to be able to see the baby. I certainly hope for your sake that it's the latter. While there's nothing to do but wait and see whether you can see more in another week, if I were you I would talk to your OB to see what he/she advises. I'm also in blighted-ovum-limbo right now, waiting for my follow-up u/s on Thursday. I've been doing a lot of research on the subject this past week because that's the only thing that makes me feel like I'm remotely in control of the situation (even though I'm not, of course). If it makes you feel better, do the same to help the wait go by faster.

  • thank you for the warm wishes everyone... i did a little research on blighted ovum and tilted uterus... i'm going to lean more towards a tilted uterus. it seems with a blighted ovum there is no yolk or anything but a sac. i have more than that. there's a thicker line on one side of the yolk the tech said possibly was the fetal pole, but she just couldn't tell, so i'm keeping spirits up for the next 2 weeks. spotting has stopped, yay! i also have not stopped having symptoms and i've already gained like 6 pounds so far...  hoping for the best but preparing just in case... will most definitely let you all know how it goes :)
