my picky-eater 18 mo. old will eat quinoa!

I'm excited about this b/c of quinoa's nutritional benefits. I overcook it slightly and then add some extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, and greek seasoning. He loves it!

Re: my picky-eater 18 mo. old will eat quinoa!

  • Quinoa looks like a grain, but actually it's a seed. It kind of looks like rice. The nutritional benefits are amazing. It's a "complete" protein.  Most complete proteins come from animal sources - milk, cheese, meat, and eggs. Complete proteins contain ample amounts of all essential amino acids. Most vegetable proteins (grains, nuts, seeds, etc.) are incomplete proteins, so it's unusual that quinoa is a complete protein. It's also high in iron, magnesium, phosphorus and fiber, and is gluten-free.

  • Mine eats it, too. He calls it (and many other good grains) "tiny pasta." lol
