Re: Would you go to a kids party on Sunday at 9am?
We are Jewish and my kid goes to a Temple pre school so I think I'm not supposed to plan a party from sundown Friday until sundown on Saturday. We aren't very religious so I might be wrong about that.
I think I should rule out Memorial Day weekend. How about the Sunday after the school year ends? Will kids still show up?
I really don't want to have to go to a kids party at 9 am, but I would probably go b/c I know DD would have fun.
I don't think Memorial Day weekend makes a big difference - people will be around, maybe a few will have events in teh afternoon/evening, but it shouldn't effect attendance at 9 am.
If the majority of the kids are Jewish, then go for it. I wouldn't do it around here because it's the Bible belt and I think there'd be a lot of people who didn't come (but we aren't church goers so I'd take my kids!)
DD's birthday is May 30 and I have always avoided Memorial Day weekend for parties.
Does your guest list overlap your sister's 9am guest list much? If not, can you do back to back parties?
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
We don't really have any churchy people. The only ones invited are my DS pre school class (from a Jewish Temple) and my family.
Church goers are the only ppl I think you would have to worry about on a Sunday morning. Sounds like you're in the clear. I personally prefer early a.m. parties to free up the rest of my day. Besides both my girls wake up at 5:30 am daily, by 9 am I desperate for a new activity. Sounds awesome!
*edit-agree w/ PP's to choose another wknd then Memorial day
I probably wouldn't do a 9am Sunday birthday party. I wouldn't schedule anything for a holiday weekend just because a lot of people have things planned or are out of town.
Not a chance. I have a hard time getting out the door for 9 am for school and dance, no way I'm doing it on the weekend (we are not morning people and my kids have trouble getting up before 8).
And I definitely would not do it Memorial Day weekend since that's a big travel weekend (of course, my opinion of this is affected by growing up in Coastal NJ where traffic is *insane* that weekend).
(m/c 1.17.07, m/c 5.15.07)
DS - 03.15.08
DD2 - 12.03.09
DD3 - 3.28.11
Why not combine the parties and do it on the same Saturday morning? I can't imagine that it wouldn't be fun for cousins to do it together, as long as you have two cakes - right?
I would decline the Memorial day invitation, but I would go at 9 am on another weekend. That's early for our house but I know lots of moms who start really early.
Heck yeah!
I like to have parties either early or late to not take up the whole day. We are early birds so I would love this option to be able to party and then be home for lunch and naps.

I love these two beautiful children!
Yes. We have had a party at CEC that early. It was perfect as we had the place to ourselves, got a discount and it was before DS2's nap time!!
We are up early anyway. I'd totally go (with my kiddos!)
Heck yes! DS' birthday is over Labor Day and I have many parents appreciate the fact that we get the party over in the morning (we made it a pajama jam and everyone including parents came in comfy clothes) so they can get on with their day. My close friends have moved to more morning and evening parties.
I hate middle of the day parties, i know they're popular but it screws with nap time.
Most likely no. Is there anyway you can check with most of the parents to see how they feel? My kids used to wake up by 6:30 at the latest so it wouldn't have been a problem but now they sleep until 7-8 and DH and I like a slow, gentle morning on the weekends. It would have to be family or a very special friend to get us running like that on a Sunday.
I guess if your circle is big on church it would be a positive that the party would be early enough for a lot of people to attend prior to church services.
Eh- my daughter had a 9 am party on a Saturday recently and it was a real pain for us (though she loved it!) Even though we are up, I don't necessarily want to have to be dressed and out of the house that early on a weekend. It is enough to rush 5 days a week for work/school. Weekends should be more laid back and calm, in my opinion.
As for a Sunday party at 9- we are churchgoers, so that wouldn't work either. But even if you don't have churchgoers, I think it's a matter of if people want to have an obligation early on the weekend.
I don't think I'd take my kid- 1. that's EARLY 2. if anyone does church- count them out 3. maybe mini cupcakes, but a piece of cake at 10:00 does sound way too early to me
We were recently invited to a party that starts at 10:30, and I thought that was really early. I think 9 might be too early, but I guess it depends on your guests.
As for a party on a holiday weekend, I'd rule it out. Most people won't be able to come and if they do, they'll probably be stuck in a lot of traffic.
