sippy cups

What kind do you have?

When do you give one to LO?

How much and what do you put in it?

Does he/she drink it all?

Re: sippy cups

  • We have a bunch of different ones, Nuk, Dr. Browns, Gerber....

    We give one at dinnertime.

Full to the brim with tap water.

She drinks none of it.  :-)

We gave one to daycare too for more practice.  I can tell she is practicing there b/c she actually picks it up and holds it now, and puts the spout in her mouth.  After that....nothing.  Baby steps.  :-)

This.  She chews on the spout too so once in awhile she gets a drop or two of water that way.

  • I have Nuk and OXO. The NUK ones are straw sports bottle type ones and OXO one is your standard sippy. I had some others but donated. They were cheap, drippy and she didn't like them.

She's been getting them since like 5 months. She just figured out probably in the last 2 weeks how to really work it on her. Before that I helped or it was a chew toy. I give it to her at lunch, dinner and I need to keep her occupied for some reason.

I put just water in mine. About 1/4 full. Enough she gets some but still light enough for her to handle.

Somedays she drinks great, the next not so much. Like I said she just figured it out on her own.

  • We've gone through a couple different brands, but I've found the Nuby are the best for us (got them at Target). The top is the same material as a bottle nipple as opposed to hard plastic. We offer her water at every meal now, and she will drink maybe an ounce or two.

They key is to fill it with liquid all the way to the top. That way they only have to tip it a bit and can drink as opposed to having to tip their head far back.

After 3 failed Clomid+TI cycles, DD was conceived with IUI#1

    TTC #2

    Clomid 50 mg + IUI#1  = BFP, m/c and D&C at 7w1d

    Clomid 50mg + IUI#2 = BFN

    Clomid 100mg + IUI#3 = BFN

    Lupron + Follistim + IVF#1 = 11ER, 10M, 10F, ET of 1 expanded BBA 5-day blast, 2 Frosties. BFP! Beta 10/13 = 264! Beta 10/15 = 702! EDD 6/21/14

  • We also have the Nuby one like pp. :) I've filled it to the top, to prevent her from having to tip her head all the way back,...but then somehow she ends up putting food in it ??

So now I only fill it like 3-4 oz of water , usually during lunch or dinner time.  And she does drink it all.

  • What kind do you have? We have every kind ever manufactured, but we mostly go with the Playtex ones with the straw since we can push the middle and DD can drink it that way.

When do you give one to LO? Usually after meals

How much and what do you put in it? We fill it with cold water, she decided she is too fancy for anything less than super cold.

Does he/she drink it all? Not even close. We are lucky if we get a few sips into her before she decides that we aren't giving her water, but rather poison.
  • We have like 5 different kinds. I know one is a NUK, a few are Tommy Tipee (sp.?)

When we give her solids, and when IL watch her and when they take her on walks.

We put a few oz of water in it. Or ILs will put my BM since she has not been taking the bottle really at all during day when I am at school for about a month now

She drinks a little. not much.

What kind do you have? We have a Nuby, some Munchkins, a Tommee Tippee, and a kid sized Camelbak water bottle.

When do you give one to LO? Randomly throughout the day.

How much and what do you put in it? Water, filled up to the tip top!

Does he/she drink it all? Never! She just likes to bite the spout. Someone on here suggested taking the stopper out (if your cup has one) and letting LO experiment that way so that they associate water coming out to the spout and tipping the cup back. Of course, that's messy, but you could always let them sit in the tub and do it!

  • We have the Nuby ones too...It's stage 2 I think. He has to bite on the spout to get any out. It works great.

We offer it to him all day. he loves to drink, so He gets it alot!

We put about 1/8 of apple juice in it, and fill the rest all the way to the top with tap water. He will spit it out if it's just plain water, so the PEDI suggested flavoring it with Apple Juice. We have Motts for Tots, so its got 40% less sugar than reg. apple juice. and with the water in it, It makes the sugar intake even less.

He drinks about 2 full glasses a day. He's been reluctant to drink a whole bottle, and the pedi was worried about him being dehydrated. He does still get about 16 oz of formula.

  • I don't remember the brand name, but we started with one that has a soft tip. She's been taking it for a few months now. I usually give her a little water in it in the afternoon and then a little after dinner. It took her a few weeks, but she is getting the hang of it. Some times she drinks a lot, and sometimes doesn't have much interest.
  • We use the Nuby brand also.  We tried to Tommee Tipee brand, but it was too hard for her to get anything out.  Plus, the Tommee Tippee was like $6 at Target (!!) and the Nuby we picked up at K-Mart for $1.79!  She only gets room-temperature water (cold water freaks her out) and I've occasionally mixed 1-2 oz. of prune juice in with the water when she's a little backed up.
