I just might have to cave and buy a bumper

This is the third day where I had to get up in the middle of the night to aid LO in getting her limbs untsuck from the slats and unwedge her head from the corner of the crib. It's just all of a sudden she scoots around on her back, doing laps around the crib.

Are the breathable bumpers also a little padded? I was her to be a little more comfortable if she wedges herself in a corner again, no bruises.

they arent really padded and to be honest we still have to go wedge ds out of corners.  he also likes to get his hand stuck above where the bumper is...sigh.

ditto, they are useless IMO.  for what you're looking for you need the real deal. we have one in DD's crib (gasp!) and used one for 2yrs w/ my son and they both survived.  I just try to remember that they have been used for years and years and yes, the occasional freak accident happened but it's exception, not the rule.

  • I kind of look at it this way. There are more deaths from bumpers than there are accidents from kids hitting crib slats, that is why states are moving to ban them.  We use sleep sacks so DS can't get his legs stuck and he does every seem bothered when his arm goes between slats or when he presses his head against them. I think this is one of those things that bothers moms way more than babies.

Also, breathable bumpers are still not recommended by the AAP (I am not sure people realize this). I did see something called Wonder Bumpers the other day. There are like pads that go over each individual slat so there is still space between the bars, I am not sure if they are any safer though. https://www.gomamagodesigns.com/wonder-bumpers

  • I caved and got a breathable bumper last week and it has really helped us.  Still waking up sometimes just because he rolled onto his tummy, but not uncomfortable with his arms stuck through slats.

  • LO has been like this for the last two weeks or so. I don't think it's his arms being out of the slats or the face against them that bothers him, it's that he wriggles into the corner and can't figure out how to get out.
