Umm...awkward? fb comment

Let me just start out by saying I FF my kids and have BF for about 15 hours total (on one child), and am planning to FF this baby as well.  Not trying to start any debate, just stating the facts so you understand.

I got rid of all our bottles after #3 because they were leaky and driving me crazy.  So, I need new ones this time around but wanted to get recommendations on what kind people liked, so I asked on my facebook wall for opinions.  I got like 25 great responses from other mommy-friends.

THEN....a good family friend (she is friends with my mother and I grew up close with their family, but STILL...) who obviously prefers BFing, says:

"Well since you asked....you could always try those personal nursers on your chest....nothing like it! No cleaning, no warming up, no measuring, And best of all it's free and comes it such cute little packages....come try it on this last one. Or is it the last one???? Love ya! .... I can hear you grumbling already....haha!"

I love when people call my boobs "cute little packages" on my facebook wall....Embarrassed

  • I'd probably come back with some smarta$$ remark.  Or just delete her comment so she gets the hint.

  • You should tell her that you are terrified of BFing because so many women smother their babies while doing it and for that reason you are option for bottles.

DELETE! And possibly setup new privacy measures for a little bit to get the message across.

Geez, how sweet of her though... ::eyeroll::

  • I'm sorry but I think you opened yourself up for those types of comments. If you cant take the bad with the good then you probably shouldnt post about those things on an "open" type of forum where people can post what they wish.

Was she overstepping her bounds? Probably. But I actually giggled a little bit at the comment.

I can "take the bad with the good" because I didn't delete her comment and actually responded with, "I asked about bottles, not boobs, <name>!!!!! :)  And it IS the last one!"  I just think that it was an embarassing thing for her to say on my status, that's all.

Also, my original status didn't ask for pros or cons on FF vs. BF and I didn't ask for opinions on how to feed my child.  It said, and I quote:

"Mommies (and/or Daddies): Please recommend your favorite baby bottles! Got rid of all my Avent bottles I used for the first 3 munchkins because they leaked like crazy around the seal. Just looking for something without a million pieces and that doesn't leak!"

Not really upset here.  Just didn't really want all my fb friends thinking about how "cute" my boobs are....

Of course everyone had their own fave, but the top runners were: Dr. Brown's (this was actually #1 by a longshot, but those DO have a lot of pieces to clean), Tommee Tippee (I actually just ordered these on target.com because they are on a great sale right now), Playtex drop-ins, and Evenflow glass.  Avent was not a fave...and I agree! "are you saying my boobs are small?"

HAHA!  Totally.  And the weirdest thing is that my boobs are NOT small and definitely not in the "cute" category.  I just love people.  Huh?

Honestly, that was the most offensive thing to me! The rest I can just roll my eyes at because she just sounds like a pompous know-it-all, but hey, don't be dissing the girls! Especially when pregnant and the suckers keep growing!

    Yes

  • I think the comment is kinda witty. I like it. Pretty sure every woman has boobs not sure why it would be embarrassing. Most women bf so I don't think it that awkward. And not everyone puts just formula in their bottles some put breast milk so it does leave the topic somewhat open. I think those types of comments should be expected.
  • I used DR Browns with DS (EFF) and was planning to go to them or try the Born free this time!

and I agree this is a bit awkward. some people think they can say anything on fb and its ok, lol

  • Am I an idiot or don't you sometimes have to use bottles to feed your baby breast milk (if you pump)?  I think the comment was a little awkward.  It's not like you two were having a private conversation, it's on your facebook wall!  I don't put anything on there I'm not comfortable with the girl who sat behind me in 8th grade homeroom needing to know.

Since BFing moms use bottles too, I find it rude that she called you out for no reason. I don't think her comment was that bad, pretty light hearted from the stuff I have seen people post about FF.

FWIW, I love Born Free. They have the extra parts too but I wash our bottles and sippy cups in the dish washer every night so it really isn't a difference. I also like that you can just replace the bottle nipples with a sippy nipple when you are ready to introduce sippy cups (we started around 7 months).

I love the Tommee Tippee bottles, I'm a BF & pumper (soon to be very much a pumper). LO#1 liked the drop-ins, but LO#2 wouldn't take them, that's when a friend recommended Tommee Tippee. Hoping this one likes them too.

Oh good!  All 3 of my kids just liked to eat in general so they weren't too picky on the bottles.  I'm hoping this one will like the Tommee Tippees because that's what I bought!

  • I think the comment was unnecessary and kind of obnoxious. It gets an eyeroll from me.

  • Wow, SO awkward!

This reminds me a lot of a comment I got from a good family friend (friend of my mom's, grew up with the family, etc). When I was moving in with my now husband, she kind of gave me a lecture on "living in sin" and was like, why don't you just get married?! She sent me an email later to apologize. At the time I kind of smiled and nodded b/c I'm pretty non-confrontational and knew that mostly she just cares about me, even if her way of showing it was  little effed up.

I think your response was appropriate!

Agree!!!  I understand that posting things on an "open" forum such as FB opens you to people commenting what they want.  However, the question is should they make those comments.  I say people should learn to have more common courtesy!!!!  I feel for you, OP.
