I have been EP for DD since she was 6 weeks old. She just turned 12 weeks and for the last week has started to refuse her bottle. When she takes her bottle she will take about an ounce then start to push the bottle out of her mouth and fuss and cry. At first, I thought she just needed to burp, so I would put her up to my shoulder and try to burp her then try the bottle again. I noticed that this usually happened as the day went on and would be worse at the 6pm feeding. Some feedings she would take her bottle no problem, other feedings she would fuss and not take the bottle. A couple of days ago during her 6pm feeding, after trying to give her a bottle I went ahead and tried to breastfeed her and she nursed with no problem and was content. So for the last few days I have nursed her in the evenings. Today so far, she took her morning bottle fine, nursed her at 830a and 1030a, then my DH tried feeding her a bottle around 1230p and had no luck so I had to nurse her again. On top of all this, she has been more fussier than usual. She typically eats every 2 hours about 3-5 oz and goes to bed around 830p and wakes between 6-7a. Has anyone heard of this or dealt with this before? I don't mind breastfeeding her but this is not the best time for this happen since I have in-laws coming to town and would be wonderful to be able to pump and bottle feed her!

Re: LO Refusing Bottle
Babies like to nurse for comfort as well as nutrition so maybe she is wanting the comfort and closeness of breastfeeding versus the bottle? Especially since you say she has been fussier than usual it might be that she just prefers you to the bottle when she is upset.

At 40w6d, our Team Green surprise came by unplanned C-section and changed our lives forever!
It might be a growth spurt. Kellymom talks about growth spurt ages here. I hope things get better for you guys soon.
My LO has been refusing the bottle for about 4 weeks now. It's a nightmare (I start work tomorrow). We have tried EVERYTHING. Every bottle, every nursing position, every nipple flow. He just screams when he sees the bottle and on the best day will only take an ounce at a time.
Our pedi recommended putting some apple juice on the nipple to entice him to put it in his mouth. It actually worked. Now to get him to suck once it's in there. . .
