I've been a SAHM since L's birth so I've only pumped occasionally and don't have a freezer stash, but I'll be working once a week starting next Saturday and she'll be at grandma's for nine hours. I want to send her with 18 ounces of BM.
Usually L takes one boob every three hours, including night feedings. I don't have supply issues as far as I know and she seems satisfied. But now I'm having one pumping session every morning and only getting 2 oz. (handheld pump). I used to get closer to 4 and at this rate my small stash will be gone in no time. In preparation I do two night feedings in a row off the same boob and then pump the other one, but it never gets engorged and I'm still getting just the 2 oz. What gives?
My other concern is that I won't have time to pump while I'm at work. It's only once a week so it won't affect my supply, will it?
TIA!
Re: When's the best time to pump?
yes, not pumping/nursing for 9hrs will hurt your supply. if it was a one day thing, probably not, but if it's weekly than it totally will.i assume you get to eat lunch, right? pump then!! what do you do for a job that they don't give you your law mandated 15min break? I would have a talk w your boss about enforcing the break, you will be so uncomfortable if you go that long!!!
I only pump at night before bed and I have a hospital grade electric so I get a good amount. I have heard supply is best in the morning, i'd just keep pumping whatever side you're not feeding on to get our body used to it. GL!!!
