Belly Support

I have been having horrible back pain along with frequent sciatica and my doc recommended getting a support band for my belly. I never imagined that I would have this much trouble so early on but he said that since all of my abdominal muscles were cut through after major abdominal surgery, that I don't have the muscle tone to hold things in and that is why I am having such a hard time. Can anyone here recommend a good brand or a place to get a support band/brace? I found one at Pea in the Pod but I don't know how good it is.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Belly Support

  • I got this to help counter the compression on my lateral femoral nerve and while it is a ridiculous looking contraption, it absolutely works for me.  Takes a bit of adjusting to get it just right, but once you get it right you should notice a difference.  I thought the shoulder straps would be annoying but since I seem to be getting bigger every day we're quickly becoming best friends.

Thanks so much! How did you figure out your size? Did you base it on your pre-pregnancy weight or your current weight?

  • I based it on my current weight, which was smack in the middle of the Small range. It has a good range of adjustment, so even if you're close to the upper limit of a weight range and think you might go over before the end of your pregnancy, I would stick with where you are now.  I also tried the mini band (just around/under the belly) and while it helped a little, the straps across the belly and shoulder really put it over the top.  Back pain wasn't really my issue but it helps me improve my posture all day which I know has to be preventing a whole bunch of discomfort I'd be feeling otherwise.

  • This is the one I have and I recommend it.

I used it during my last pregnancy and will be using it again. It's made of nice material and was recommended by an Orthopaedic Dr. that I work for. Good luck - I hope you get feeling better soon!
