Do I really need nursing tanks?
I have 4 or 5 of the stretchy old navy maternity tanks and they seem like they are stretch enough to be able to pull down to nurse. I don't want to invest a lot in nursing bras before I deliver so I was thinking about getting some cotton sleep bras and wearing those and my maternity tanks until my milk is established and I know what size I will need.
Does that make sense or will I regret not getting a couple of nursing tanks to wear in the hospital and for the first few days?

I love my nursing tanks & wore them daily during my leave. Now that I'm back at work I wear them at night & on weekends.
I bought two before DS was born. Around 36/37 weeks I got measured, then I bought 1 size bigger. The fit perfectly, even when my milk came in. When we got home I ordered 3 more. It was really nice to have 5. I wasn't constantly washing them & there were days I changed 2 or 3 times due to spit up.
I have Bravado tanks, they're expensive but worth every penny IMO. I've actually thought of ordering a few more...
I didn't buy any nursing tanks. I had bought a few tanks like the ones you described (except the Liz Lange ones from Target) while I was pregnant to wear.
After I had the baby, I continued to wear them. They were extremely easy to nurse in. Just pulled down since they were stretchy enough. I wore nursing bras underneath them, and they are just as easy to layer with another shirt on top if you wanted to go that route. I just never saw the need for nursing tanks.
To be honest, I am still wearing them, although mostly for sleeping these days. They never stretched out - from my big 9 month pregnant belly, to engorged boobs, to pulling down for nursing.
Exactly! I say the Bravado nursing tanks are a must. I am living in mine while on maternity. They are comfy, supportive, easy to use, and stylish. You won't regret it.
I was fine with just a sleep bra in the hospital and I didn't go to far for the first few days at home.
I bought Bravado tanks after that, and they're pretty much all I wear. Worth every penny. I have 4. It can wait until your size is steady after a couple weeks, though. If you want, buy one cheap target one to wear around company (if you'll have company over at home). Don't judge all tanks by that, though. My Bravado absolutely has enough support for public appearances. I was a 34E after LO was born, and am back to a 34D-ish now.

No. I haven't bought any nursing clothing except for 2 bras that get washed a LOT haha. And I only bought those b/c I had to go back to work.
I went topless around the house for the first few weeks. I did have 2 of those crossover sleeping bras. They are comfortable but not at all supportive (I am a 36J).

I bought one nursing bra but never use it.
