I like it!! I have NEVER thought of it as a boy name. I don't know a single boy named Avery, but I know several girls, including my niece. Go with it, especially if you like it!
I realy like Avery as a girls name. We know of one little boy named Avery and he is more often than not mistaken for a girl by people who hear his name only. Based on that....I really feel that Avery has made the jump from male to female.... and I would have more concerns with using the name for a boy.
I love it!! I know alot of people think of it as a boy's name but I have always thought of it as a girls name. That could be because I went to school with an Avery, and she was a girl.
I think it's super common as a girl's name, especially where I live. When I was a teacher, there were tons of Avery's. I hated it when it was mispelled. One year, we had an Avri. Blech. I think our neighbor's daughter is spelled Avrie. I really like it if you promise to spell it Avery. I also like it for a boy. I had a boy student named Avery once.
There are a lot of posts on this, you might want to do a search. I posted facts from SSA in another thread but don't want to chase the numbers down again. It is more popular (much more) as a girl's name now, but still known as a boy's name too - making it completely unisex.
I prefer it on a boy but think it is nice on a girl.

I'm not really a fan. I'm generally into really feminine names, and I just see it as too masculine for me to use on a girl. Then again, I see it as too feminine for a boy.
But it's a perfectly acceptable name. And I think Marie makes it a little more girly, which is good (:
Re: what do you thik of the name Avery for a GIRL?
I also automatically think girl when I hear Avery, and I love it.
Yep, I'm on the "HATE the name for a girl" side!
I'm SO irritated that it's become a girl's name.
I feel the same; I much prefer it as it was originally used, for a boy.

Avery is a boy's name. Period.
Hate it on a girl, hate it with the MN.

My cousin has a daughter named Avery Rhyan. A facebook friend just had a baby boy and named him Avery..cant remember the middle name though
To me, Avery is ONLY a girl name. When I read Avery Marie my head goes immediately to Ave Maria (the church song).
Seems to me that Avery has gotten pretty popular recently, but other than that it's a nice name.
