Babies on the Brain

This is the last insurance vent....I think

So I applied today and got us accepted for short term coverage good through the begining of May. It was like $90 for the month.

Then I applied for that HMO and a dental plan effective May 1st (Still waiting on status of that). The cost of those would be $600 a month

I did this because to do cobra through the plan we were on until last week would be almost $1000 a month. We thought it would be half that.

I was freaking out last night, but found the plan and told dh I was going to apply today.  I texted him and told him that I needed some help but I ended up figuring it out, so I finished and sent it in.

He calls me after work and I tell him this and he says we still have to pay the other premium because I need to get my knee fixed and it would be considered pre-existing.  We had this conversation and I told you that.

Yeah, last week, and then that letter came and I was freaking out and told you I was applying and you said NOTHING!

I told you I was canceling our upcoming dentist appointments and you said nothing about keeping the insurance.

So know even if we drop the dental it is still almost 800 a month.

I feel like I just wasted $90 today, plus another possible $600.

I'm just pissed off about it.

  • This all sucks! I hate hearing stories like this for me it just makes the need for real health care reform so obvious. Did you shop around for a quote? The pre x thing is legit and you want to make sure you have no lapse in coverage or you may have a really hard time getting coverage for the knee. We have health insurance specialists in my office feel free to pm me if you think I can help at all.

  • I feel your frustration (insurance companies are the bane of my existence) and I'm sorry that it's such a crap situation. Hopefully the SCOTUS won't be stupid and overturn ACA - in 2014, it becomes illegal to deny someone because of pre-existing conditions. Hang in there.
