Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC and Anti-depressants

Hi, All,

My DH and I have started TTC.  However, he just recently got placed on 20 mg of citalopram.  I've read in many places that this SSRI (anti-depressant) can reduce sperm count and mobility in men.  Has anyone also heard this? Is anyone else's DH on an SSRI and you have successfully conceived? He doesn't want to come off the meds, so I'm afraid we'll never conceive!  Thanks!

Re: TTC and Anti-depressants

  • This is a conversation you need to have with YH and a DR (urologist, RE, DR who gave him the meds).

    Good luck

  • My H is on a SSRI and we had no trouble conceiving DD. Have your H ask his doctor if you have questions.

  • I don't think it's an issue for DH. It's an issue for a pregnant woman.  GL

I don't know anything about men being on it, but my best friend (who is pg) had to have extra u/s done to make sure her baby's heart was developing properly bc she was on an anti-depressants.
