3rd Trimester

For those who didn't have stretch marks with their first

Did you get stretch marks with this pregnancy?  I didn't have any with my first, but I was obsessive with applying cream each night. This time I haven't been applying cream as much, but I'm still in the clear (for now at least!). Can I thank genetics for this, or should I start loading on the cream?

Re: For those who didn't have stretch marks with their first

  • I didn't ave any with my first and started getting some about 2 weeks ago at 35 weeks.  Ugh! I thought I was in the clear too but I have gotten bigger with this one.

  • I didn't have any with my first until she was a week overdue.  Then 1 appeared right next to my belly button, followed by a dozen more down low.  Last time I got several more, but I was also heavier pre-preg and gained more.  I also didn't use any lotion.

No new ones this time yet, but the old ones are a little more visible than they were a few weeks ago.  I might try some lotion or oil to help but I'll probably just forget.  Oh well, a few more trophy marks.

  • I didn't have any with my first and don't have any yet with my second (36 weeks tomorrow), even though I am bigger this time around.  However, I am obsessed with applying the Mustela cream during the day and the Basq oil at night.  So far, so good.
  • yep.  got 'em this time around - not bad but they're here :(

I didn't get any with my first, and so far so good with this pregnancy (though I still have a few more days so ya never know!).

I applied lotion fairly regularly with my first, but not at all this time around.

From what I understand, lotion will do nothing to prevent stretch marks. It's more about genetics, how quickly you grow, how you're carrying, how much you gain, etc. The only thing I've heard you CAN do to help prevent them is stay really hydrated, because it gives your skin more elasticity.

  • I've avoided them again so far but I won't count them out until I'm home from the hospital.  I'm sure it comes down to genetics but I used Mama Mio tummy oil both times.  It helps my skin not itch and I do feel better at least trying something whether I end up with stretch marks or not.

  • made it through 2 w/ out any.... don't know if I'll be so blessed this time- I feel huge!  Definitely think genetics accounts for a good 90% of whether or not you'll get them.
  • I got them 2nd time around :( I gained less weight, but definitely was all belly this time, I got a bunch of short ones all around my belly button.

  • I did not have any with my first, and so far so good at 33 weeks with this one. Not sure if it is genes, or not gaining a lot/gaining slowly. I only gained 23 with DS and I am up to 17 lbs with this one (about the same). I was a lot better about applying cream last time too, although I do still do it-not as obsessively as the first time.

This, but with my 3rd pregnancy, and not until 37 weeks....booo!! I so thought I was all set but nope!!  I'm 39w 3 d now so I hope to go soon, like today, so I can keep the few I have to  minimum!!

  • LUCKY! I also had no marks with DD#1, but oh lordy, there is a road map on my belly this go around. Here's to hoping they go away or fade mostly!

  • Soooo, not pregnant but board and clickin' around....

I got ONE stretch mark in 3 pregnancies.   It was with my middle child who was smaller than my first--go figure.   I applied cream in all thre pregnancies but I think my first I was more attentive to applying.  My third was my smallest baby.

  • I literally got one very small stretch mark with DD1, and it came after delivery.  I did not get any with DD2.  Crossing my fingers I don't get any this time either.  I never used lotion for any of my pregnancies.

  • I didn't get any last time, and I used cocoa butter every night.

So far, none this time, and I've been using Earth Mama Angel Baby "Natural Stretch Oil".

Not sure if it's the products or just luck... but I'll gladly take it!

  • I had none with DD. I just noticed a faint line that I thought was caused by pants but I'm pretty sure it's a developing stretch mark. Damnit. I was applying cocoa butter maybe every day or so but I am moisturizing like crazy now.
