Pregnant after IF

retroverted/tilted uterus & doppler?

Has anyone with a retroverted uterus had any trouble using the doppler early on? From what I understand, my uterus will eventually start tilting forward as it gets bigger, but I was thinking the doppler might not really work early on since it may still be tilted back...

  • I'm glad you asked this.  I'm also retroverted, and it's one of my reasons for not getting a doppler - I'm too scared I won't find a heart beat and will subsequently freak the eff out.  Big Smile

  • I am too, it's why my NT was hard.  Baby is at the worst angle.  I think it would be really hard w a dopler until it tilts forwards.

Also another reason why i have no bump at all.

Oh, don't say that. I want a bump....I guess it makes sense that it will take longer to show, because it needs to tilt forward more. Bummer....

  • Mine is retroverted, and they had to do a transvaginal ultrasound at 12 weeks in order to hear the heartbeat, and even to really be able to see the baby (heard nothing on the doppler, and couldn't get clear images with the abdominal ultrasound). I think it would be REALLY difficult to hear the heartbeat on a home doppler with a retroverted uterus during the first trimester. I never got one, because I knew it would completely freak me out not to be able to find it.

The uterus moves up and starts to tilt forward around weeks 12-13, so you might have an easier time after that. Even so, the doctor had a hard time finding the heartbeat for me at 16 weeks. I'm 23 weeks now, and have just started to develop a little bump over the past few weeks. A lot of people say I still don't look pregnant, though :-)

    lurking here..

I am retroverted (paps are always so hard for them to do, too...ughh) and I was able to hear with the doppler at 9weeks. It did take some practice but I got it.
