I am due in October, so we have plenty of time and may change our minds...but front runner name *by far* for a girl is Cora (DH's grandmother's name). I don't know anyone else by this name & it seems old-fashioned (which I like) without being super popular (although its trending up on the ssa.gov list). So, do you know any Coras? What do you think of the name? Any personality characteristics that you automatically associate with the name?
What middle name would you pair with Cora? We are trying to decide between Lyn, Marie, Anne (all family names) or something else that just sounds pretty.
Thanks for any feedback/suggestions! ![]()
Re: Do you know anyone named Cora?
Thanks...Anne is my least favorite of the middle names to be honest. I am leaning towards Cora Lyn. I like the French version you mentioned, will have to bring that up to DH & see what he thinks.
I love the name Cora -- it's a family name for us dating back to the Civil War.
My husband's cousin is named Korah (she's 30).
It has the same pronunciation, though apparently it's a biblical male name(?).
. . . .
The lunch lady when I was growing up was named Cora. I also read a blog whose writer has a daughter named Cora (I think she's 3ish).
I don't think Cora Anne flows well, but I like Lyn and Marie with Cora just fine. Family names are always my preference

oh, that is very pretty, I like Cora Elizabeth! Thanks!
I LOVE the name Cora. I don't know anyone of any age named Cora except for what I've heard on this board. Of your choices I like Cora Lyn or Cora Marie best, or here are a few others ideas: Cora Noelle, Cora Lucille, Cora Brianne, Cora Louise, Cora Diane
I don't know any of any age.
I like lots of syllables so
Cora Bernadette
Cora Magdalene
Cora Heloise
Cora Lorraine
Cora Therese
Cora Elizabeth
Cora Geraldine
I know a new baby named Cora. Also, someone in her mid-30s. And my great-grandmother, but she died in....probably the 1920s? 30s, maybe? Probably born in the 1870s, so not a good example!
It's on the up-and-up in certain crowds these days, but it's still uncommon enough to be refreshing. I think it's lovely!
I know two Coras and a Kora - a 90-something year-old resident at the nursing home where I work, a 3-year-old, and a newborn.
I do like the name, though I tend to prefer longer / frillier names in general. Cora is sweet.
I would like a longer MN with Cora, like Cora Juliet, Cora Beatrice, Cora Genevieve, etc. Maybe you could incorporate a family name, like Cora Annelise or Cora Annemarie?

my daugther's name is Cora Mae (both family names). I didn't know any Coras until she was born. I now know another baby, a 16 year old girl, and have periodically heard people being called that alot lately. most recently an 8ish year old girl at the restaurant we were at a couple days ago.
I like Cora Elizabeth as well.

I know one Cora. She's an adult, around 40. I don't know many children at all, so obviously I don't know how popular the name is here.
I hate Lyn, Marie, and Anne. I get that they're family names, but it's not like they're different or special names.
I love the suggestion of Cora Elizabeth.

I know two.
One is probably 70 by now. She was my HS English teacher. The other is a girl I was in said class with. She's about 35.
I like the name. It's pretty similar to the name Clara, which was on my short list had DS been a girl (DH vetoed it, but I love it).
I like a one syllable mn with it for some reason.

My two year old is Cora Elizabeth. She's the only one I know so far, but I do know that it's trending upward.
There was a girl in my HS with the name. So she's be almost 30 now. I love the name and would really consider it if I ever have a girl.
There is a 2 year old girl at my DD's preschool named Cora.
Cute name!
