Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone been told the have a very long cervix?

At my OB appt last week the PA informed be that mine was very long. The average is 3-5 cm and mine is 5.6cm. I didn't think much of it other than hmm maybe that's why our IUIs were so successful first try when naturally we weren't having much luck... but now I'm googling and I've read that I have a much higher chance of needing a C section since it will take that much longer to efface.

Anyone else been told they have a long cervix? I'm planning to ask the OB about it at my next appt.

  • I have a very long cervix and I labored for all of 3 hours with DD. I don't think that really means anything other than your baby is safe and sound in your ute.

  • Are you tall? I was told I have a long cervix at my annual exam last year and that most tall women have longer cervixes. (I'm 5'10.) I hadn't heard of the c-section thing before, I hope that's not the case!

  • I was told mine was very long, measured 5.3cm but my doctor said that it was a good thing. I think it would be better than a short cervix. Let me know what you find out at the OB. Hope it's good news.

  • Please don't be scared by this:  my cervix was 5.8cm in the beginning.  It was 4.3cm two weeks ago.  I doubt a long cervix means you'll have any problems.

I'm 5'8" and was wondering if height made a difference. I was also told my cervix is long.

  • Thanks for all of the input. I was getting down after that stupid article I read.

But so glad to know I'm not a freak of nature haha. And yes, I am about 5'8" so that could def explain it.

  • Mine has been pretty long all pregnancy (IUI's never worked FWIW) and I delivered my son at home after a brief labor and one push :) So no, I don't think it means your destined for a c/s.

  • My ob said my pelvis was small and baby might not fit. But then I just told him my pelvis is already stretching and he's like that's great.

Dont worry about being longer. It's called human diversity. Some women have shirt cervixes and some have longer ones. If he thad told me that, I would just plan on taking in a lot of prostagladins  ahead of time.
