Embryo Donation and Quality

Hi ladies,
Talking with my husband, the question came up as to whether or not a downside to embryo donation/adoption is the quality of the embryos. If most of the embryos are donated by others with infertility, and assuming that the best quality embryos were used by the couple, does that mean that the majority of the embryos that are being donated wouldn't be of best quality? Is this a stupid question??
Are there agencies that guarantee quality embryos?

Re: Embryo Donation and Quality

I had the same concern when considering our options (EA vs DEg cycle). In most cases, I would assume that embryo quality could be lesser than if you used a proven donor with outstanding fertility. In addition to infertility, there's also the fact that the donating couple usually takes the best quality embryos for building their own families. But even still, quality isn't everything. And I'd imagine that there's a number of people who donate good quality embryos (like people with tubal infertility). I think, though I'm not sure, that you get a chance to review this information when looking at profiles.

We froze one embryo after 2 were transferred to our surrogate.  We may put the embryo up for adoption when we are through because it is our way of paying it forward after all of the battles we have faced.  The quality should be fine since we used a DE from a young successful donor.

I have a couple of thoughts. First, it could depend on the clinic you're dealing with. Some clinics have very high standards for freezing. If that's the case, the quality is likely to be better. Second, not all donated embryos are from couples who have their own IF issues. We have high-quality frosties from a DE cycle. Is it possible to get more information about how the frosties came to be, and also about the clinic's requirements for freezing?
