  • I have to agree with your DH on this one.

Achlefublah. FINE. He's already appropriated the stupid basement TV, anyway. But for the record, I'm putting this one in my little black book of...I don't know, things that belong in my little black book, that I'll somehow be owed for later. I REALLY wanted to watch my show tonight. Like, I was looking forward to it all day. And he's being a dramatic pissant, to boot, yelled "YOU'RE RUINING MY WHOLE NIGHT" when I argued with him about it.

I'm consoling myself by remembering the DJ I was listening to this morning, who said "Really, what else does Kansas have going for it, other than basketball?" so I'll try to take that to heart and show some understanding.***

***If you are from Kansas, don't get mad, I'm joking. I dutifully read my kids the Three Little Jayhawks story on a weekly basis where they thwart the Big Bad Missoui Tiger and turn him into tiger soup, I'm doing my part. Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Woo-hoo! Now I want my darn TV back.

We were friends until the last paragraph.

LOL. I'm sorry. My FIL gave it to Finn for Christmas a couple years ago. It's a take-off on the Three Little Pigs. If it makes you feel better, when KU was playing Missouri earlier this year, I asked Finn who he was rooting for and he yelled "THE BIG, BAD, MISSOURI TIGERS!!!" and DH threatened to disown him under his breath. And then Clay looked at the dog and said "Booker looks like a Missouri Tiger!" and I thought DH was going to spontaneously combust.

LOL- well I live in a house divided, DH is a Sooner and I'm a Tiger.

Keep rootin' for those big bad Tigers, Finn! ;)

I'm OK with it, Mizzou wears the same colors as the Buffs. That, I could get behind.

  • DH is watching on his phone, so anything is better than that! We are jaded Ohio Stare fans, though, so I have nothing to add to the argument :)

Really, guys? I mean, I'm not telling him he has to watch the WHOLE game on the smaller TV...just the first 45 minutes. How long is a game, anyway, 3 hours?

But your show is recorded. You don't need to watch it right this minute. Not sure why you need the big TV and why you have to watch your show tonight.......

I told you, I don't need the big TV, I'd be happy with the smaller one, but I can't get my show on the smaller one. It only records in the basement. And no, I don't have to watch it tonight, but usually when he's home we try to watch something together, and he won't watch that show with me, so I thought tonight would be a great night for me to catch up on it.

You sports people, you. You're all infuriating. FOR THE LOVE, IT'S A BALL AND A NET! A BALL....AND A NET!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, on the other side of that argument...you are fighting to watch a show about Princesses.  ;)

Oh, Kate, I was so done, but now you've got me going again...

I know, my princess show is totally stupid, but it's not like I'm telling him he can't watch the game so that I can dumb out to fairy-tale porn...I'm just suggesting he watch a small part of it on a very nice, moderately-sized, high-def television for the first quarter. (Period? Third? I don't even know what it is in basketball.) I would have been over the moon to have a TV like that back in the day, it's not like I'm suggesting he watch it on a 10" black and white set-up with rabbit ears. It seemed like a fair enough compromise to me.

LOL I didn't mean to rile you up again...

  • Since this is the Championship game I would let him watch the game.

While I'm clearly in the minority, I agree with you.  It's 45 minutes, he'll live.  And that's coming from a football and NASCAR fan.  Now, if he had the tv during the game and you asked him to move so you could watch your show and he'd miss the ending...then I would side with him.

Overall, I just really dislike basketball.  It seems to be on all.the.freaking.time.  Like golf.  All I want is a cheesy Saturday afternoon movie like they use to show back in the day and I get basketball.  Or golf.  Tennis is a treat simply because it's something different.

And I like your black book idea....I tell DH I "bank" that kind of stuff.  Like each time he finds another pickup to do up really nice for himself vs. letting ME upgrade for a change.   Or watching the movie he wants just because "it's due tomorrow" (BS.  Netflix doesn't have a due date).

  • I would let him watch it on the big TV.  It's a big game and it means a lot to your DH.  How many times is Kansas going to be playing in the National Championship game??

This is coming from another wife in America who happens to be a sports fan :)  If my team were in the National Championship we would be at the game--which we were 2 years ago for football, but if we couldn't, you bet it would be on the big screen.

Watch your show at a different time if it is really important for you to watch it on the TV--do something else instead like a chore or hobby or something you usually don't have time for.  Or if you really want to watch it, watch it on your laptop.

  • I can't give you an answer. KU was playing...which means no one in this house will have any game on. KU is forbidden in this house.
  • Late to the party, but I would let my DH have the good TV. I like sports, so I would probably just watch it will him. I like curling up on the couch and watching just about anything with my DH though. We are pretty good about compromising on the TV. I do like the writing it down your little book idea and saving it to cash in on later :)

  • Sorry Hizzo, team DH on this one.  While I am not into sports at all, DH is, and I would never take away the big tv during one of the "important" games.

  • I agree with you. He doesn't NEED to watch it on the big tv. That's stupid. He should be happy he has a tv to watch it on period. Everyone saying she can just watch her show the next day...that's not the point. She wanted to watch it last night. Its crazy to me the sense of entitlement there is over watching the game on a big tv.

There's entitlement on both sides. You happen to think her desire to watch one thing rightthissecond overrules his desire to watch another thing on the big TV. There's no "right" answer. She didn't NEED to watch a recorded show last night and I'm sure he wanted to watch the game - to use your words to describe the situation.

  • In a way sure.

Neither of them needed to watch anything. They both wanted to watch something. She wasn't insisting on watching it on the big TV just to be a pain. It's where her show was recorded. Is there really NO ROOM for compromise here?

Sure there is - she could watch it a different day. She could watch it on her computer (it's on Hulu). Compromise is another thing that goes both ways. I doubt he was wanting to watch it on the big TV just to be a pain - it's a once-a-year event that he was heavily invested in. Different strokes for different folks. So, you think he should be the one to give something up, most people think she should. Again - there's no right answer.

  • She wasn't asking him to not watch the game...just to watch it on a different TV for 45 minutes.

This.  I also hope he enjoyed watching KU lose on his big TV.  We watched on ours and loved every second of it.

I'm sure he was very sad, but it's obviously karma for not compromising with his wife. If he'd just given up the TV for 45 minutes, the game would have ended differently. At least that's what I plan to tell him tonight.

  • I'll admit that I'm just laughing at the notion that a 32" TV is "small". We have a 32" tube TV as our main TV and a 20 inch tube in our bedroom. I can't imagine ever wanting anything bigger than the 32"... it's HUGE!

    Thank you. My point exactly.

very late but i dont get how this got so heated between you two. why did you have to watch during the game? why not just watch before?

    or

why didnt your dh just record it while you watched and started it late? forwarding through commercials?

I didn't have to. Just like he didn't have to watch the whole thing on the basement TV. I wanted to, just like he wanted to. Obviously we couldn't both get what we wanted in this scenario, so there was a conflict. Do other couples really never have petty arguments like this now and again?

Petty arguements at least weekly. It's how we roll ;)
