Hair question

Mine: when will it stop falling out? It is grossing me out! It is all over the place and all over DS!

Liam's: so he has a ton of hair and now has some cradle cap. Everytime I put stuff on it, it looks gross and greasy. Should I just suck it up and deal with the oily mess? Does cradle cap eventually go away on its own without treatment?

Re: Hair question

  • Our Ped said just wash his hair more often if he gets cradle cap, eventually it's supposed to clear up on it's own.

A trick my aunt told me... Head and Shoulders (be VERY careful not to get it in baby's eyes!) clears up acne and cradle cap! We used it for the acne and it cleared up in a couple days! Take a small amount and rub it in your hands, rub it on baby's face and head, the use a wash cloth to wipe it off during their bath.

  • My son has a TON of hair, so it was only a few days ago that I noticed he had cradle cap. I took a baby comb and gently combed it off his scalp, then for the rest that I couldn't get that way, I put baby oil on his head, left it on for about 15 minutes, then combed out the rest when I was giving him a bath. I think I got pretty much all of it. My understanding from what I read is that once it's gone, it doesn't typically come back.

  • My only suggestion would be to shampoo his hair twice after using the baby oil. I only shampooed once and DS's hair was still a little greasy afterward.

I've had the exact opposite happen.  When I first got pregnant, I lost a bunch of hair (nothing wrong with thyroid). Heck, before I got pregnant, I have had to warn the people I work with that I tend to shed--a lot!

Now? I haven't really been loosing the excessive amounts of hair like I did in the past.  I keep waiting for it to fall out again.

  • I'm a hair dresser and I cleared up my lil guys cradle cape by using a potato brush to get the loose flakes off, then shampoo with Paul Mitchell- Baby Don't Cry Shampoo(use the brush to lather too), then a small little dollop of oil under a hat at night. Wash in the morning, let oxygen get to it during the day, then oil at night.
