2nd Trimester

boy vs girl pregnancy symptoms

AH! With my son's pregnancy I was on cloud nine. Nothing bothered me, little complaints. 20 weeks along with my daughter and I have a huge red splotch over my right eye, no make up would cover this. I was just diagnosed with TMJ and not all the tylenol in the world keeps me from waking up at 4am in agonizing pain. Back pain earlier than with son, haven't even popped yet and terrible ezcema over hands this winter but has finally cleared up! Had to limit the duration of the medication so that was a struggle cause I work at a bank and wash my hands constantly. I am so happy it's a girl, but does the pregnancies really vary boy to girl or is it just first vs second? TYIA

wish i could stop complaining, every week something different happens...

  • I think it's more pregnancy to pregnancy that it varies. The only things I've heard that have some sort of scientific backing with regards to male versus female babies is how extreme your morning sickness is. Apparently the old wives' tale that girls have a tendency to give stronger morning sickness than boys is at least somewhat true (though I'm sure that variations based on pregnancy can and do completely contradict that in a number of cases). That's just what I've read though. I've also read that it may be true that those carrying boys could have slightly bigger appetites than those carrying girls. Other than those two things, I don't think I've heard of any boy versus girl differences that have any scientific merit to them. Honestly it all seems so random to me; I don't even think doctors know exactly what causes pregnancies to vary so widely.

  • This is my second pregnancy and I'm not sure if the differences from 1 and 2 are because of gender (this baby is a boy) or because it is my second time around.  I had TERRIBLE all day sickness up until about 30 weeks with DD.  This time, I have been sick a few times with some nausea.  However, this time, my body feels beat up all the time.  My back and hip hurt daily.  Also, this time, my appetite is much heartier!

  • I am pregnant with twins .. boy and girl!  Let me tell ya I could combine all my other pregnancies together and I would still feel better then I do with this one pregnancy! I don't know if its because the double hormones . . or because boy/girl .. or what!

When I was pregnant with my daughters (18,13) I had a lot of morning sickness! When I was pregnant with my boys (15,8) I don't remember being so sick. My one son I remember a few times being sick .. but don't recall back pain or belly. It did make my carpel tunnel flare up massive and that was horribly painful.. but with him my water broke too soon and he was premature so I didn't go to full term.

I can SO relate to your agony! My first four months I spent most my time leaning over the toilet or going back and forth to the hospital. I couldn't keep food or water down and was non stop needing Iv's. Then at 13 weeks I had a cervical cerclage put in. I had cramping and bleeding .. which was so scary! I was in bed and on bed rest for months! I am now off bed rest but still can't do much. If I stand or walk for more then a few minutes my belly starts cramping. I keep getting killer headaches and I still have nausea! I keep getting this shooting pain up my spine from time to time. I assume the one twin is pushing on my spine. Oh and the braxton hicks are getting painful .. so not fun!  The newest symptom .. dizzy spells, blurred vision, and feeling like I am going to pass out. Turns out my blood pressure is high. Oh how I hope they can lower it with med's!!!!  I am 21 weeks and 1 day. (my ticker is a week off cause docs change my due date on me!)

Needless to say I love my unborn babies and look forward to having them and holding them but this pregnancy could really lighten up on me some!  =)

  • My pregnancies have been night and day and I am having another boy.

  • The basics of my two pregnancies are the same (thus far).  With neither did I get any morning sickness but felt queasy for the first tri- bled in 1st tri with both, felt tired 1st tri with both.

The differences are that I'm a bit more emotional with this one (a boy) than I was with my first (girl).  I think I might feel more energy with this one (hard to remember a lot about 2nd tri last go around)-  but that could be for a myriad of reasons (I worked at a job where I sat all day, was heavier before I got pregnant, was less active and didn't eat as well with DD- so extra energy could just be due to those things).  I'm carrying way higher with this one, and (so far) all in the belly (can't tell from behind yet).  I don't think it's a boy/girl thing- I think it's just a different pregnancy.

  • I dont think the sex of the baby has anything to do with it.  Ive felt great this whole pregnancy, didnt have much m/s (only threw up one day, thats it), my skin has never been better. Its a girl.

  • I can definitely say that those old wives tales are not very accurate. I really thought I was having a girl. Other than just that "instinct," I was extremely sick in the beginning. It's a boy. I think it depends on the pregnancy, the person, and the circumstances. I do not believe it has anything to do with the sex of the baby.

  • I think gender-specific symtoms are pretty much all OWT. Sorry.
