Birth Stories

March 22nd Evelyn Grace. EDD March 30th.

I had noticed an increase of my contractions earlier in the afternoon of March 21st, started recording contractions at 5:15pm because they were so close together and I was having noticable cramping and pressure.  I called my mother to come over so me and DH could head to the hospital.  We got checked into Triage and was monitored for 2 hours.  After dilating to 5cm they let me labor in the jaccuzzi tub for an hour which helped me relax a bit.  At this point I was just breathing through contractions, I didn't think it was so bad.  I was admitted since I was dilating enough, at this point I was at 6cm.  My two nurses came in and introduced themselves and asked me questions about my birth plan.  I was then hooked up to an IV, my doctor came in and broke my water to help speed things along, and then given a shot of IV pain meds, and just labored in the bed.  I was ready for an epidural at 2:00, got my epi at 2:20.  After being able to still feel my legs and my waist down we realized my epi may not be working very well.  I kept feeling a lot of pressure with my contractions and was worried I may have to push soon.  I started pushing at 4:20, I was really upset that my epi wasn't working.  I pushed so hard and felt like she was stuck.  I got 5 or 6 pushes and felt like she was super stuck.  I remember it feeling like I was breaking in half!  I have been through this before with my previous children, but this was so intense with pressure I felt like I couldn't breath!  I wasn't meaning to be dramatic but I couldn't help but yell out.  I told the doctor I couldn't do it because she wasn't moving.  The doctor was great and she told me to push her out of my butt.....it totally felt like she was going to come out from there!!!  After 20 minutes of pushing, my baby girl was born.  They laid her on my chest and just let me hold her.  DH was on my right side the whole time and seemed to be a little in shock from the whole thing.  I remember the doctor saying, "She's a big baby!"  After holding her for a few minutes, the nurses took her to evaluate her.  She was 10lbs 4oz and 19.75inches long!  I couldn't believe she was so big!  She was bruised and swollen from birth and it did take several days for her to start looking less puffy from birth.  She is very healthy and we are so in love!  She looks so much like her daddy!  She's been the best little baby, so relaxed and easy to please.  She really only cries when she is ready for a diaper change or when she is hungry.
