How often do you tell H you love him?

I heard someone say once that they were annoyed by couples who constantly say ?I love you? and they felt like the more it was said the more in diminished the meaning.

DH & say I love you to one another all the time.  He?s in law enforcement, so if something were to happen to him, I would want that to be the last thing we said to each other. So even if we?re mad at each other we still say it.  I often wonder if my co-workers are rolling their eyes when they hear me on the phone with him because I never hear any of them say it to their H.

What do you ladies do?  Say it every time you part ways, often, sometimes, hardly ever, never?.

Any time we get off the phone, any time we leave each other (like when I leave for work in the morning or on saturday when he leaves for work and I'm home), at night before we go to sleep...and ocassionally randomely. Different people have different needs when it comes to love. Some people don't care how much you SAY it as long as you show them...I don't think it "deminishes" the meaning either way. It's all about individual needs.

    All of this.

  • Every time we leave in the morning, before bed, and when we get off the phone.

I don't need to say it so much but he likes to and I love him so I do it.

  • At least 2x a day.  (Even when he's being a tool.)
  • Not often at all.  Mostly when one of us has done something wrong or wants the other to do them a favor, so it's always in a joking way.  We're not a mushy couple at all.
  • Several times a day

  • At least twice a day if not more.  We say it when we hang up the phone, leaving for work, etc.  It is one of the things I love about our relationship.  He's the first person I have been with that throws it around all the time and I love it and appreciate hearing it.  We are both big on getting love affirmation verbally.

We say it every time we part ways, and frequently when we are together. I remember seeing/hearing something when I was young (I think it was a talk show when I was like 10 or something) and the point was made that you never know what is going to happen or when the last time you will see someone is, so you should always make "I love you" the last thing you say. So for my DH, my mom, my grandma, and usually my brother, I end every phone call and visit/time together with I love you.

I?m the same way with family & friends.  I always tell them I love them.  I think it?s important to say it & even more important to hear it.

  • Usually once a day when we leave for work. It is just a habit and about as meaningful as saying "see you later". We say it under other circumstances and really mean it only once in a while.

  • not often at all. maybe a few times a week? we know we love each other though. We both work from home, so I wonder if that makes a difference? if he goes away for the weekend for work I say it more often while he is away.

I say it way more to LO, at least a few times a day.

  • Always the last thing I say to him.  I remember hearing someone say, "You never know which goodbye will be your last."  That really stuck with me.

I'm not sure, I don't keep track. Maybe everyday? But how can expressing love (or any emotion) verbally diminish the meaning?

I think what that guy meant was that he felt people who say it all the time say it more out of habit & not because they really mean it.  Or perhaps he meant, when you hear it so much/often, it's not as meaningful or special as when you hear it seldomly.

Not that much, maybe a couple of times a week. After sex and sometimes on the phone. We do say it more when one of us is traveling. Neither one of us grew up in an "I love you" house. DH is kinda weirded out right now because his stepdad has cancer and his mom keeps saying I love you at the end of the calls. It just started when his stepdad was diagnosed.  I do tell DS I love him a couple times a day.

All the time. And yes, I do think that sometimes it's habit to say it when ending a phone conversation or whatever, but it's nice to hear nonetheless.

We always make sure to say it when he's leaving for work for the day. MH is a cop, too.

Don't feel guilty! We're team Scout - once or twice a year? My dh is the kind of guy who figures that I should know he loves me so he doesn't have to say it. It's not a big deal to me at all.

We tell DS all the time, though.

  • Rarely.  Ususally the only time we say it is if one of use is traveling for work or something without the other.  Neither of us is very mushy/lovey dovey.  While we probably should say it a little more often than we do, but hearing it all the time would lessen the meaning for me.  As a couple of people mentioned, I think it just becomes a habit for some people, like saying "see you later."

That said, I do tell DD that I love her at least a couple of times a day, as does my DH.

We say it at the end of every phone call and any time one of us is leaving the other (for work, store, etc.). We say it randomly at other times as well, but those are instances where we always close with "I love you".
  • Every day multiple times a day - After going through 4 deployments, you never take each other for granted. We say it in the morning, whenever one of us leaves the house, when we say goodbye on the phone, and when we go to bed - and we mean it each time.

  • DH says it many times a day. I almost never say it to him first. I should probably work on that.

We say it several times a day in general, and on top of that almost always when we part ways or hang up the phone.

We had a discussion with friends about how people say "I love you" all the time and it's just another thing to say and has lost its meaning. DH spoke up and said "Steph means it EVERY TIME she says it and I can always tell."

It's absolutely true, and it made me feel good that he knows that. I never say it just because it's something to say.

  • My DH and I are both in law enforcement (I'm full time Dispatcher and Part Time Deputy since LO and DH is full time deputy and also on the SWAT team), so we make a point to say it on a regular basis.  DH was involved in a shooting last May while I was working the radio.  For close to 10 minutes, we knew someone on the team was shot, but we had no idea who.  It was the longest 10 minutes of my life.  Luckily, it was not him, however it was the member in front of him as they were entering the house.  One other member has a bullet hole in his collar of his suit.    The situation could have been so much worse.  The member who was shot almost did not make it and only did due to the quick thinking of the SWAT doctors and medics.  He is now recovered and back to work.  :)

Often. Several times a day, I guess. Always when we are saying goodbye on the phone. I don't really think about it, it's not super conscious or anything. We're just verbally demonstrative, I guess.

We say it a lot too.  The above reminds me though of years ago when I was talking to my landlord on the phone and he said, "Okay, love you, bye..." I was thinking WTF? I assume he was one of those people that just says it as a goodbye and wasn't thinking. It was funny though.
