2nd Trimester

Dizzy spell .. .. almost fainted

So I have had nausea all day and yesterday too .. with vomiting. So I went to see my mom for a bit today and after I left her house my nausea was kicking in. (that's why I left) So in the car I took a dissoluble Zofran. Then I drank some of a sweet tea from Mc'D's and ate part of a Mc Double. Then I ate a small part of a charlston chew candy.

I don't usually eat like that .. but I was in a tough spot. If I take the Zofran and don't eat something right away I notice my heartburn is worse and I get headaches.

So I am driving and getting closer to home when all the sudden I get light headed and feel like I am about to pass out. At one point I seriously thought I was going to faint. I pulled to the far lane over and went slow all the way home and tried to keep myself as alert as possible.

I've never felt like this before ... was wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

I am 21 weeks today with boy/girl twins.

Re: Dizzy spell .. .. almost fainted

  • It happens to me all the time, presumably because my blood pressure or blood sugar is low.  I recommend pulling completely OFF the road next time it happens when driving!  At the drop of a hat, my vision goes a bright green color and then black when I get like that.  I'd hate for that to happen while driving.  Even at 10MPH, losing control of your vehicle could have dangerous consequences for you and your babies.

  • I was on a dirt road ... so was kind of hoping I could make it home super slow! I was so scared though. Decided I am never driving alone again .. well at least til I know whats going on!

  • It's funny, because I've told myself the same thing :)  It doesn't usually happen to me while driving.  Keep some peanut butter crackers in your purse and carry a bottle of cold water.  That way, especially if you are alone, you can pull over for a short snack.  Sometimes, walking around a bit to get my blood pumping helps, too.

Though, I'd be freaked out to stop on a dirt road depending on where I was!  I'm from the 'sticks' originally and there are places I would NEVER pull off - think Deliverance.

  • I was super dizzy for a few days and when I went to the dr they tested my sugar level. It was 62. Which is pretty low. And I had eaten only an hour and a half before the test, but here's the thing- I ate something sugary. My dr said I have reactive hypoglycemia, which is basically the opposite of diabetes. So I try to stay away from sugar, esp when on an empty stomach. I bet the sweet tea did it to you.

  • Yeah I hardly ever drink anything with caffeine because my anxiety and I try to avoid sugary stuff.    =(    This was so scary. I have been throwing up so much today I think I've only kept down water and a piece of chicken before that happened.

I don't see my OB again for another week ... so wish I was seeing him sooner!!!!  I hope its nothing that's going to keep happening.

  • I've been having that a lot with this pregnancy. It happens if I stand for more than 5-10 minutes (doctor says my blood pressure plummets after a few minutes of standing and I need to either keep moving or sit). I also get that way after eating any type of artificial sugar. I can't drink any soda, candy, jello etc etc. The only kind of sugar I've found I can consume is natural like that in fruit (not fruit juice). It has taken me a few months to figure out what I can and cannot eat. As long as I stick to this "diet" I don't feel like falling over.

  • This happened to me yesterday for the first (and I hope only) time. I was in the shower but had eaten lunch a couple of hours earlier. I got dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. I had to get out of the shower and sit down. My husband had just left for a couple of hours, so I was extra afraid. I was able to get up and get out of the bathroom, but then had to sit down again. After about another five minutes, I was fine. I think maybe the heat from the shower was just too much for me yesterday. Not fun.
