Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Recommend your "bassinet"

Hi ladies,

I'm visiting here from second tri, and i thought you guys might be able to offer some valuable input (since you all already have babies).

DH and I would like to purchase some type of bassinet for the baby to sleep overnight in for the first 1-2 months. We want something

1. that is safe (obviously)

2. that has more than one function (e.g. could also be a changing table, playpen, etc.)

3. that travels fairly easily. We would like to move this thing to more than one room on our house, plus we might want to take it to other houses when we visit.

I'm looking at the Graco Pack N Play, but would really like some specific feedback. What do you all think? Can you make any specific recommendations?

Re: Recommend your "bassinet"

  • We started with a PNP in our room and one downstairs.  However, our LO doesn't like to sleep flat so we went with a Fisher Price Rock and Play.  It is very portable and LO likes it.  I highly recommend still getting a pack n play to have if not in your room but somewhere else in your house.

  • We have a pack and play and a rock and play. We opted for a basic pack and play (no changing table, newborn napper, etc) because we had space in our room for the full size changing table. Our LO sleeps in both options. The rock and play is definitely more portable but I like the idea of using a pack and play too so that he gets accustomed to sleeping flat.
  • We have a pack n play w/ a changing table option and a Rock n Play.  LO will not sleep in the pack n play but we love have the changing table set up in our room and have the "real" changing table in the nursery.  LO has slept in the RNP since day one and it is the only place she'll sleep at night.  It is awesome because it is at an incline which helps with her acid reflux, it is very light and portable and we carry it from room to room, and it fits right next to our bed so I don't even have to get out of bed to peek over and check on LO or to reach down and comfort/soothe her or hand her a paci if needed.  Highly rec the RNP!

  • We also have rock n plays.  Doesn't really double as much but they are great, especially with reflux.

  • I also recommend the Rock N Play. It is super portable and my LO loves it.
