My husband and I can't get the name Jovie out of our minds. We just love it. I had discounted it because I was afraid it sounded made up and we ran in to a little Jovie at the park last week. Thoughts?
I think of the movie Elf since Zooey Deschanel's character was named Jovie. I love that movie, but always wondered if Jovie was a nickname, it never seemed like a "real" name to me.
Honestly, it just makes me think "juvie" (or however you spell it?juvenile detention). That is the first thing that comes to mind every time this comes up.
I really don't like it. It sounds like a nickname to me. Cutesy, young.
I do, however, like Josie (as a nn for Josephine)
All of this, exactly.
I know a little girl named Joby...just throwing that out there.
I think it would make a great nickname, but not sure for what...
I don't think it holds up well as a stand alone first name.

My IVF Journey
I work in customer service and one of the customers we deal is named Jovi. I thought it was a unique name and memorable! So I think it definitely can work for an adult. I didn't even think of Elf because I've only seen it a handful of times and I'm sure there are plenty of other people like me out there that haven't memorized it either! Go for it if you love it
Re: Jovie?
Joe V?
is that how it is pronounced?
It reminds me of cheap cologne from the 80's... Jovan Musk, anyone?
Also, ending in -ie makes it sounds cutesy, like a nickname.

Cute for a 4 year old. Not cute for a 40 year old.
Maybe it could be a nickname for something more adult-friendly?
Jovie is a huge guilty pleasure name for me. I don't typically like the "type" that it seems to fall into, but I really like the name itself.
It's totally because of how much I love Elf. Like, I watch it during the summer, I love it so much.

Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
I like it but agree it might be nice as a NN. If not, I really don't see it so terribly little girlish... I think it can age well, honestly.

Isn't that the name of Zooey Deschanel's character on "Elf?"
I think it's ok.
