Well, the results are in, and they were about as perfect as they can get, without being 100% perfect. At first, LA's hands were covering the face and up over the head, so it was tough to get a good view. But we wiggled my tummy around a bit with the wand, and eventually, LA rolled over to face up and spread out a little so we could see what we needed to. All measurements look good and my due date has not changed. We got a brief glimpse on 4D, and I think LA looks like me, but didn't tell J that, lol! The pics aren't that great though, or I'd share. I do have an anterior placenta, so it may be a while before I will feel regular strong movements, but that's ok. Also, it looks like LA may have dodged the bullet on the Sandwich family big-headedness gene, haha!
The only thing they saw were two little white dots (calcium deposits, about 1 in 10 caucasian mothers show them) on LA's heart that can be a very weak soft marker for Down's Syndrome. However, given that all of our blood work to date has been astronomically good, and there were absolutely no other physical markers present, they think it is extremely unlikely that there is much of a risk for us, and frankly wouldn't have even told us about it if they weren't required to. When they recalulated our odds based on today's results, it was still 1:15,200, which is riduculously good. So, although we are not at all concerned about this (well, maybe just a smidge), we opted to do the Verify (like MaterniT21) blood work that will let us know definitively within the next two weeks. We chose to do it, even though it's probably unneccessary, to keep the worry and anxiety to a minimum, but I am comfortable enough to just look forward as normal and start the nursery and buy some gender-specific clothes!
