His daycare had someone come in from Easter Seals to do developmental screenings. He tested fine on all things but speech she didn't get to test as he had a paci in his mouth (grr). So anyhow I called her up and discussed my concerns and we did an over the phone assessment. She said based on what I was telling her he scores on the end that would refer us to additional screening. She did say he was kind of at an age when a lot of kids have a language explosion and that could happen so I could wait or go ahead with the referral to the program called Help Me Grow. I told her I would like to go ahead and at least meet with them and get another evaluation to see what they think, however i probably wont have the results of that until MAY!
That seems like a really long time to wait to me...if you have done an EI program is that the norm?
Re: Update to Eli not speaking yet
I tend to be on the proactive side...I figure extra help won't hurt. Speech is always fun for my little guy.
That's awesome! I do some work with our local Easter Seals... it's an AMAZING group and they're programs really do help.
I can't really comment on the wait, but you could always take their online evaluation and see what those results say....

Ah... I should have figured that.
FWIW - My DS is only a couple of months behind yours and he has no words either, so I'm with you on the eagerness to figure out and address anything that might mean he's "behind"
Fingers crossed for the much talked about "language explosion" from your little guy before May!!
Yes that kinda wait is the norm. Per federal law the have 60 calendar days from when you request an eval to evaluate your child and 30 days from that time to start providing services. I think our internal EI "goal" however is 30/30. You can probably find links to your state's laws regarding time frames and the cost of services(if any) on your EI website.
Don't forget that there is a school holiday in there too. Evaluations are done by the school district and they follow the school schedules.
From first phone call to first speech therapy, it was just over a month, but I called right before Christmas. Without Christmas and New Years in there, it probably would have happened within 3 weeks.
Good luck to you!
Because we're fancy like that.
