My cousin just used this spelling too, I don't get it!

I feel so bad for the kids. As a teacher, I watch kids get so frustrated when they have to spell their name repeatedly because it is so weird. Or, they have to explain how to say their name because of the spelling nobody knows how to say it. If it sounds like Declan, spell it the accepted way. I don't get why people do this to their kids!
