Jessica Simpson!?! Yikes...

Warning... This my offend some, but I am just stating my opinion.  Has anyone seen recent pics of J Simps 9 mos pregnant?  She is alarmingly large...  And her article in US Weekly claims she's gained 35 lbs.  I call BS on that one.  Girlfriend looks like she's packed on at least 70+.  The girl is my height, 5'3, and I can tell you all that I gained 35 with DD, but was still less than half her size.  My point is, how can someone with millions of dollars, access to prenatal trainers, chefs, etc let herself get to this point??  If was in the public eye as much as she is, I would be much more concerned about my weight/appearance.  Not to mention, it's completely unhealthy for the baby for the mother to get like that!  Not giving her daughter a great headstart, that's for sure.  Not to mention that weight is going to be a nightmare to shed for her.  Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else calls BS on her claims....

Re: Jessica Simpson!?! Yikes...

  • I had to do a Google image search to actually see what she looks like now, but she doesn't look "alarmingly large" to me at all. She looks fine. I fail to see the issue.

  • Yes, she's gained more weight than "suggested"... but so what?!  I say more power to her for being real in Hollywood and coming straight out to say that she isn't meant to be thin.

Also, she has a million-dollar deal with Weight Watchers to be their spokesperson for post-partum weight loss... so I wouldn't put it past her that she "let herself go" to enjoy the time off from dieting since she knows she'll lose it with the program!!!

  • Kate Hudson gained a TON of weight with her son.  I think it was like 70 lbs.  He turned out fine and she lost every pound of it...

  • Oh she's effin huge. No way she's gained 35 pounds. But I will say she's pretty much tummy and boobs... it doesn't seem like her face has filled out all that much. She wears long dresses so I can't tell about the legs. The thing is she may be taking good care of herself but some people just can't help but pack it on when they're pregnant. I swear she's been pregnant like 2 years... when is that baby going to come. She has to be miserable.

Btw, here is a pic of her at her baby shower:

  • Honestly, I take offense to you saying it is unhealthy and not a "great headstart" for her daughter.  I was shorter than 5'3" and gained 70 lbs with DS.  I ate healthy and continued to workout throughout my entire pregnancy.  My doctor was supportive and said some women just gain more than others.  Yes..it took a long time to lose the weight, but so what. We have a healthy, happy, and amazing little boy...my weight gain during pregnancy has nothing to do about who he is as a person now.  Women's bodies do what they need to during pregnancy...for some reason some women gain more than others.

  • Yes she does look like she gained more than 35lbs but who cares?

I gained 65lbs with DS and my doctor never acted concerned for my health or DS. It took me 7 months to lose the weight. If I can do it with out a millions of dollars she can surely do it.  And maybe she doesn't care what people think? Just because she is a celebrity doesn't mean she has to be perfect and thin all the time. She is pregnant for god sakes.

  • She's admitted to eating buttered poptarts and mac & cheese every day for breakfast.  Sorry, but that's not healthy and it's not giving her daughter a good head start.  I agree with you, OP.  It's true that some people can't help but put on lots of weight, and pregnancy doesn't look good on everyone (like me!), but she's doing it to herself and is being very unhealthy.

  • One of my neighbors growing up is about the same height and gained 60+ pounds with each of her four kids.  She then lost all of it after each kid.  She's a much smaller frame than Jessica Simpson.  The kids are all grown up and doing fine.  Oh, and they've managed to do what most Americans have not - maintain healthy weights well into adulthood.  I fail to see how gaining more weight than is "suggested" screws children over for the future.  There are much, much worse things that parents do after their child is born.

I do admit that Jessica could look better.  I think a large portion of her "problem" is her clothing choices.  She keeps picking things that do not flatter her figure.

Maybe I should have been clearer...  Like pp said, she is openly saying she eats 'whatever she wants' like buttered poptarts, bags of candy, total junk in excess etc.  that is not healthy whatsoever, and is disgusting IMO.  Why cram your body with crap b/c your 'pregnant'.  Cold hard truth....  Baby only needs 300 calories a day , so your diet should not change drastically.  Also, if you research this subject, gaining excessive weight during pregnancy increases your child's risk of obesity in childhood, not to mention diabetes for mom.  This is why most drs are very attentive to moms weight gain during pregnancy, and there is a 'healthy and unhealthy' range.

I knew this post would be controversial to some.  I understand everyone is different and starts from different weights, etc.  to each his own.  I also question her choice of mumu, flower patterned dresses.  Not exactly slimming, so maybe it's deceiving?

  • I had heard her admit she was 170 now.  She does have a very short waist (so do I) which makes you seem even larger.  I have wondered if not teetering on platforms would also not make her look so large.  Either way she'll lose it, especially with WW, and she might as well enjoy it now!  I guess I am not her or her Dr and it is between them.  My SIL gained something like 75 lbs with her last son and he was 12lbs!

I don't agree with the bolded.  I think some women gorge themselves and do not take care of themselves at all during pregnancy.  It is not healthy to gain 60 lbs.  It's just not.  Sorry if that is mean, but it's the truth.

There is a reason 25-35 lb weight gain is recommended for women of normal weight during pregnancy.

Jessica does not look good, but she also wear ridiculous clothing.

  • I'm far past 1st tri, but I had to throw this out there: Kate Hudson gained upwards of 70 pounds with her first baby. He's perfectly healthy and she looks fantastic now. I think J. Sim's baby will be fine.....
  • I can't believe how catty some of you are. She is beautiful even though she gained weight. My mum gained 60lbs with me MOST of it was water weight. Jessica Simpson will be a good mum I am sure of it. I really hope people don't come up to you when you gain your baby weight and say wow look horrible.

  • What a freaking joke.

I gained 48 pounds with my daughter.  I looked fabulous, and when I went in for labor, the nurses literally said "it's nice to have a healthy weight patient" which made me LOL because I knew I had gained way more than I should have, but I was all belly and boobs, so I guess I hid it well.  I also ate whatever the heck I wanted, including milkshakes, fast food, whatever.  That's definetly NOT how I eat when not pregnant, but when my body wants cheetos, then dammit I'm eating cheetos.

More power to her, this is probably the only time in her life that she will be able to eat poptarts or whatever else she wants to eat.

She'll lose all the weight in 4-5 months, max, and look amazing again. Trust.

  • Yeah I agree that some women eat a diet of Mcdonalds and Doritos while pregnant and gain a crap load of weight.  Some women continue to eat well and are "healthy" and still gain a lot of weight.  It is what it is.  I personally choose not to judge what other women look like while pregnant...

  • So do not believe she weighed 110 lbs before getting pregnant and I don't believe she only gained 35 lbs during her pregnancy. That being said, I am 5'6 and normally around 130 lbs. When I was pregnant with my second child, my doctor was mad at me for gaining 35 lbs by the time I was 7 1/2 months. He did say that is was not healthy to gain too much. It took me 10 months to lose that weight.

  • We all gain differently during pregnancy, all of mine have been very different. I think she looks like she is about to give birth. I also don't think she looks "alarmingly large". I read the baby is like 10lbs and that could be from her husband being large and her being small.

I really doubt it will be hard to lose the weight with her personal trainer and chef.

  • That's 35 pounds is in her extra large breast.......
  • I looked her up on Google, and she does look bigger than what's probably recommended, but she doesn't look dangerously overweight. Still, if she's saying that she "eats what she wants", then that isn't good. She should be eating what's appropriate for a healthy body and a healthy baby, not just what she wants to. That part is unacceptable.

I once heard of a woman who wants to be the fattest woman ever. No joke, she's for real. Apparently, this woman got pregnant with and then gave birth to a daughter at over 500 pounds. Now THAT is the kind of weight that is seriously dangerous to a baby and to the mother. Jessica Simpson? Meh, she's big and she's lying about the 35 pounds, but she's not in a dangerous weight range.

Good luck with that, when you're starving and absolutely nothing sounds good except pizza every day for a week, or Costco hot dogs, or milkshakes, or burritos, or whatever.  With my last pregnancy it was bread sticks and alfredo sauce from a local pizza place.  Not something I ever eat when not-pregnant, but I literally had to eat it about once a week.

Actually, I've been in situations where I was starving, but nothing, not even pizza, sounded appealing to me. And this was before pregnancy. Even the times when the only thing that did sound good was junk happened, I still knew to go for the healthy option, not the junk. It might not always seem easy and you probably won't like it, but you still control what you eat. Gotta consider the baby more than one's own selfish wants. Indulging once in a while is no harm, but eating like a pig all the time is damaging to both mama and baby.

  • In "Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" I remember a tidbit about how the author's celebrity friends who usually had to be "professionally thin" all ended up gaining a ton of weight when pg just because they were so small to begin with. (They lost it afterwards). Even though I wouldn't consider JS super-skinny, I could see this being the case here. Ditto on her seeming to be carrying a giraffe and on her carrying the weight mostly in her bra and belly.

Also agree that it isn't our business...except for her posing nude on the cover of Elle, which affects anyone who has to go shopping and sees it in the checkout line! ;) The Demi Moore VF cover was actually pretty modest and tasteful in comparison. But to look as demure as Demi, you have to abandon that slimming 3/4 pose, and alas, Jess didn't. (Hmm...maybe she is concerned about her weight after all?)

LOL. Good for you that this strategy works for you. I have literally tried to force down salads and smoothies and fruit only to puke them up violently minutes later and then when I settled for the ONLY thing that sounds good (yup sometimes this is bread sticks from a pizza place) it would go down fine and my endless puking would stop. Get off your high horse. My doctor is in agreement with me that the food that STAYS DOWN is the best food for the baby. PERIOD. Clearly some of you aren't as sick as some of us and need to stop being so judgmental.

  • Im speaking for myself but I am overweight and when i had my last son i ate what I wanted (which wasnt always crap but did induldge at least once a week) and didnt gain any weight and i did have a big baby, however my dr let me go dayyyyysss overdue, we're talking 17 according to my dates and I must have been right due to the 10lb 4oz baby that was born. He is 7 now and hes lean and weighs about 65lbs so hes just fine :)

J simps is a celebrity and considering all the crap that comes along with being one, the stigma of being healthy and fit and "beautiful" I personally give her kudos for never losing her spunk and doing and saying what she wants throughout her pregnancy. Shes happy, even if shes fat...i know i wouldn't have the balls to pose nude on a magazine that has been seen worldwide, shes about to give birth...thats just beautiful all in itself!

  • Well, I will start out by saying that being catty and judgmental is doing nothing for your personal karma. And just because magazines are gossiping about her, that doesn't mean it is OK to do so yourself. Remember, just because you only gained X amount of weight the first time, doesn't mean you will gain the same thing this time. Karma is a b*tch.

Secondly, when I was pg last time, I gained 35 lbs, but I looked like I gained 70. It was the swelling, which is pretty common toward the end. I looked like Fiona from Shrek, minus the green.
