What Names Are You Sick Of?

What names did you like a couple years ago but now sound like nails on a chalkboard to you? The catch is that you have to have liked it before!

  • I live in Los Angeles so every other little girl is named Isabella (or Bella), Sophia, Ava, Eva, Lily, Charlotte, Emily or Emma.  I literally know handfuls of each.  It's like if you are having a girl here you have to pick from one of those names or they cast you out of the city.    Nothing wrong with any of these names but SNORE

? There are so many wonderful Harry Potter names! I just went with the obvious though, DS is Harry :). He's not named for the wizard per se, but I do love HP.

What about Ginny or Luna? Love both of those :)

And to answer the OPs question, in high school (10 years ago), I loved Hayden for a boy since it was so unique. Not so much anymore!! I can't stand any of the -aiden names now.

    For boys, it was Jacob.

  • Hmmm, good one.

Grace--SO frickin' overused now.  I literally know 11 little girls with the mn of Grace.  I loathe it now, because it sounds like their parents just gave up.

Aidan--I didn't like all of the other variations, but I loved the original.

Fiona--Sad about this one.  If I had another daughter, this was FOR SURE going to be her name.  It was set.  Now, it's too overused and when I hear it, it rubs me so wrong.

Miles--I loved this name.  In fact 11 years ago, I named my dog this, and he's been awesome.  When we decided to have kids, I was actually depressed that I had named my dog this.  Now I'm really happy I did.  Even though I didn't have a boy, I didn't have a chance to name my boy this because of my little dog-man. :-)

Charlotte--an older name that I was in love with.  Apparently everyone felt the same way...ugh.

For me, it's something becoming overused.  There are SO many names out there...if I know there are a ton of "Bella's " out there, I'm going to pick something else so as not to perpetuate the trend.  That way, no names get overused.  My best friend is named Kristie.  We had 16 in our class in high school.  People still have to refer to her with her last name, because no one knew the difference.  She HATED that and I swore I'd never do that to my kid.

  • These aren't necessarily names I was planning to use, but they have become names I'm sick of hearing: Grace, Ellie, Lily, Harper, Madison.  Can't really think of any boys' names besides Kayden/Jayden/etc

  • It's so funny how names can be so popular in some places, and almost non-existent in others!

Yes... My DD is Sophie. I 'know' alot of Internet Sophie/Sophias , but not a single one IRL. I used to work at an Orthodontist for 4 years and saw alot of names, and got a good feel for what's popular and what's not in the area. My mom also worked in the Elementary school system- not a single one. I just find it funny.

And if we have a DS, he will be Miles (my maiden name). Lol. Oh well.

    My pet-peeves?

    MADISON/ADDISON/MADDY (any variation)

    ADIEN/JAYDEN/CADEN/BRAYDEN

    KEN-names

LILY I like it, but becoming super popular here

    PEYTON/PAYTON

    LEIGH-NAMES

KYLIE/KYLAR/KAYLA- OMGEEE can you say every other girl?!

And the one I'm super sad about? AMILIA :( I love love love it... But not anymore. Boo

  • I'm tired of Charlotte, Emma, Claire, Lila, William, Ethan, Jacob and Aiden.

I am also sick to death of Grace and Rose as middle names. Seriously, people, enough already!

Lily. I so badly wanted a name from Harry Potter and there are so few to choose from, but I have so many Lily's in my school I couldn't do it.

What about Luna? It's our future girl name and I like it better than Lily.

  • I didn't plan to use them, but a long time ago I used to love how classic and multi-lingual Sofia and Isabel are. Now I know way too many little girls with these names, no matter where I am in the world. Even in Paris, Sophie and Isabelle are super common.

Jackson - Becaues of Steel Magnolias, but that was eons and eons ago. I can't stand it now.

    Amelia

    Evelyn

    I never liked....

  • Charlotte (is a family name, but now it's... everyone's name)

    Isabella (yep, gotta agree there)

Liam (seemed like the perfect boy name until we ended up with a Liam 1, Liam 2, Liam 3 etc in our area)

Reese (Dh loves this. I liked it for 10 minutes. Sorry! It just reminds me too much of the celebrity and the peanut butter cup, no matter how much I try)

Kayla - used to looooooove this name. Nope, not anymore.

Michaela - I always loved it with this spelling. But the variations out there and popularity have ruined it for me.

Most of the Irish-Celtic sounding boy names that end in "en." Really loved these, but now it's just... too much. :( I think I'd like to see more of these names paired with Irish-sounding last names too as that seems to "fit" better in my brain.
