1st Trimester

Hello! And a question

Hi all!

I just got a bfp this weekend, and based on when I ovulated, I am four weeks along today and very excited to be here (but still very nervous because it is so early!).

I called my ob-gyn this morning (who I love) and spoke with her receptionist (who I do not love).  I was told they normally see people for the first time between 6 and 7 weeks, and she asked for the date of my last period.  Based on that, I would be six weeks along now, so she made an appointment for me this week.  But we used the CBEFM this cycle, which confirmed when I ovuluated (and when I expected to ovulate, as my cycles are pretty regular at 40 days).

So, my question - do I take the opportunity to get in to see her early and get kind of a "bonus" check in, even though it is early (and too early to see anything on an u/s from what I understand), or should I postpone the appointment?  I tried to talk to the receptionist about it, but she wasn't exactly helpful...  ;)

  • I would just go in and talk to you doc about it. She may send you for an early u/s to confirm dates or she may ask you to come back in 2 wks.  You never know.

The only things that will truly affect is if you want to have first tri screening, since you'll need to be at least 11 wks.

  • I would just take the appointment and the opportunity to talk to your doctor about it.  It couldn't hurt to have an extra check, right?!  :)  Congratulations!!
  • I say go for it! My dr won't see us until 8 weeks...but I would have loved to have found a way to get myself in there earlier. :)
  • Thanks so much for the replies!  I was kind of leaning towards taking advantage of the opportunity and going to the appointment, and it helps to have my instinct confimed!

Honestly, I would have told her you know you're not that far along. They probably wait until 6-7 weeks because any earlier than that there's really nothing to see.

I knew my due date was 2 whole weeks off from what it "should" have been based on my LMP, so I told them how far along I KNEW I was. Just had my first appointment Friday at almost 10 weeks.

  • I agree with the pp..the earlier you go in, the less there is to see, and then the longer you have to wait to actually see a heartbeat or anything other than a yolk sac.  Waiting the extra two weeks= more exciting first appointment in my book.  But if it's killing you to wait, maybe just head in.

THIS! My first appointment isn't until April 9th and I so wish it would hurry up and get here!  ;)
