[Poll] Your child's cuddly item

Can't remember the word I've seen used for it - but I mean like a special item they always carry around and can't sleep without.

What item does your DC use?

Re: [Poll] Your child's cuddly item

  • I think the word you were looking for was "lovey."

At bed/nap time, she gets out two blankets (doesn't care which), a pacifier, a stuffed dog that she ADORES, at least two books (doesn't matter which) and anything else that catches her eye (ball, rubber ducky, doll, stuffed cat). It's the same thing in the morning. When I pick her up out of her crib, she takes it ALL back out with her and wants me to hold them all while she plays. At some point I deposit them back in her bed and wait for the next time they're needed.

  • Maybe "transitional object"?  LOL

DD has her beanie baby "puppies" 2 medium sized dogs that must be in the crib at bedtime.  She also sleeps with a paci. (and a second paci in her hand!)  She sleeps so great, I'm reluctant to try and take away the paci yet.  But, all stay in the crib during the day, there's no "lovey" during the day.

  • I put doll/teddy although technically DD's lovey isn't either.  She has a stuffed hippo that she clings to at night.  She also sucks on its ears as a way to comfort herself.

  • Her pacis which are actually Wubbanubs which have a stuffed animal attached to the pacifier.
  • Brooke can't go without her monkey. She has a stuffed animal monkey that's a must-have to nap time. So cute!
  • For years I never knew what a "lovey" was.  My DS loves anything soft - a towel, a rug, a plush toy, a blanket, etc... those are his loveys. My DD lovey is her plush cat.

  • My DS has a lovely = Blanket and a Teddy Baby = Teddy Bear (he made that one up himself and it makes me smile everytime!)

  • We have 2 loveys - a blanket and stuffed elmo that is the same size as him that he sleeps with every night and he also sucks his two fingers on his right hand.

  • DD has a white stuffed dog "Scruffles" that she loves to carry around with her and sleep with at night.  It never leaves the house though because I can't find another one for the life of me!  lol
  • My kids don't have them.  My 2 1/2 year old sleeps with a soft doll, a doggy blanket, a shark pillow and 2 small afghans but she will sleep without them - she does everyday at daycare - she has a special daycare blanket.  My 8 1/2 month old just started sleeping with a very small blanket (if you could even call it that) as she is very into holding onto and cuddling stuffed animals and blankets and her ped and I agreed it was safe for her and she needs it to help her sleep better.  Granted, she holds it when she goes into her crib but never has it when I check on her but its always within reach.
