I have a 3 year old and i just started ttc again. How soon before AF do y'all start testing? I bought the First Response test that says you can test 6 days before but that just seems crazy. I have 3-4 days before AF and I'm excited!
Thanks! It's been a while and I chart but don't temp. I used the ovulation pee sticks and got 3 postives ont the 13, 14, and 15 so i'm like 8 DPO so I guess I will wait a few days. My next expected period os the 27th.
I don't like to get my hopes up too high, so I don't test until AF is late. with DD, it took me 10 days being late to finally test. I was so sure I wasn't pregnant, that I didn't want to waste the money to buy a test. DF convinced me to take a test though.
I always wait to see if im a few days late. I don't see any point at all to test before hand and waste money.. I haven't been on bcp since may 2011 so i think ive saved a good bit of money.
I'm not going to test unless I know that AF is "late" I do chart and temp so I will know how many DPO I am but I still don't want to waste the money on tests so I am going to wait until a couple/few days after AF is suppose to come. So roughly around 18-19 DPO.
I tested at 12 DPO with my previous 2 pregnancies. This time around I plan on waiting until AF is late so not to waste a test. I would rather get AF than a BFN.
I try to wait until a day before I expect AF, which is typically about 16 days past getting a +OPK (since I don't temp). I hate waiting, but I also hate seeing a BFN, so I try to force myself to wait as long as I can!
I do, however, test early every month with ICs. FWIW, my first bfp was at 7dpo with an IC and I confirmed with a FRER the next morning.
Like PP said, though, it really depends on when implantation happens. If you implant early (like I had) you can get a positive really early; if you implant later, you'll test positive later.

This! I tested too early with my last pregnancy (hoping for a BFP on V-day - it was BFN), but got a BFP 12DPO. My LP tends to be on the shorter side (10ish days), so I'm waiting until I miss my period before I test. I too would rather get my period than a BFN, especially after my m/c.

The first 2 cycles of TTC I tested on the day before and day of my period, I have done good about not testing early. Last cycle my LP was 13 days with a drop the next day, so I knew there was no point in testing. If I ever make it to 15 dpo, I WILL have to test!
Since you're not charting but you have an idea of when you may have ovulated, this is probably the best advice we can offer you! I'm glad someone already said not to go by the box and days before your expected period: I think that's how they sell more HPT's! Good luck!

Like PP said, it's much more reliable to go by your ovulation/luteal phase as a marker for when a reliable HPT result is likely.
Make an ovulation ticker
I never test early with FRER; too expensive.
