I have been overweight for quite a large chunk of my adult life. I already have a belly (or two) and since I have gotten pregnant I have dropped some weight, not enough to write home about but some. Im not showing at all as far as I can tell at least but I know that is expected when you already have some chubbiness going on. What bothers me the most right now is other people gauging my stomach. For example: a female co-worker and mother of 1 year old (whom is also on the chunky side) pointed me out today and said "ohh I can see a baby bump." Well No, what she's seeing is one of my jelly rolls (the upper one) that just happens to stick out a bit more with this particular outfit (Im not wearing anything maternity yet btw..just regular pants and shirts). I was a bit taken aback by this one and said "no, that was there before.." She argues me that Im wrong and Im showing. I said the baby is really low right now, there would not be a bump right under my boobs at this point.. again Im embarassed enough that I just shut my mouth and went with it.. but I dont think Im wrong...
Am I crazy with this one.. If youre losing weight so far and only at 20 weeks, the baby is at like crotch level of your stomach...there is no "bump" that high up...right?? Is anyone else in the same boat here with the weight issues.. and awkward moments by others who dont mean to offend, but do anyway.?
Re: Overweight and 20 weeks
Your uterus is about as high as your bellybutton right now, though I'm sure it's pushing everything else up so it could have changed the shape of your whole belly. I'm sure you know better than anyone though.
I recommend trying to take it as a compliment - that's what they're trying to do!
I'm also overweight - size 14/16, though I've gained about 20 pounds so far and am showing.
This website will give you an idea of the size of baby/baby related things in comparison to where "everything is". The woman they use is a healthy weight, but all the organs are in the same place.

yeah ute is at the navel at 20 weeks.
have you tried any maternity pants yet? I find the panel rounds out my stomach and makes me look more pregnant than in normal pants

I had a belly before I got PG (thanks to the 20 pound gain after my m/c) my mom came down for my 15 week appt and she kept saying I was showing- I kept saying no its just my regular belly. (Ive ALWAYS Had a pooch) my friends who had kids and books kept saying that it will just pop...that one morning youll wake up with a baby bump- I kept waiting for that. I know once I started wearing maternity clothes i looked more PG. and then one day i really looked at my belly (something I usually avoid) and found that I did have a baby bump- maybe I had it longer then I thought. sometimes I think when we see our selves one way and forget to try and see what others are seeing.
I'm a bigger person, pre-preg I was 5'7" and about a size 14, and this is my 2nd pregnancy. Both times my "bump" hasn't been anywhere close to my baby. This is definitely because of how my body shifts, or bloating, or whatever else. But the first place I grew in both pregnancies was between my belly button and my b00bies. Then later on the upper bump and the lower bump joined to make one nice round belly.
I am 5'8" and wear a size 18. I am technically "obese." I hate that term. This was me at 20w0d. I always had a little bit of a pooch but I carry most of my weight in my butt and thighs. To me, I felt like I just looked fat at 20 weeks but everyone else said I look pregnant. idk, I hope this helps!
