Pregnant after a Loss

When did you buy maternity pants?

So, I am 10 weeks, and I have the BeBand from Target. It fit great with my last pregnancy, and earlier in this pregnancy, but now, over the past couple days it has been uncomfortable. I would pull it up around my belly, but I get annoyed by having something that far up my stomach, then I fold it down (how I usually wear it) and it feels a little tight and just kind of uncomfortable. I don't really want to buy maternity jeans this early on, so I was thinking of just buying the next size BeBand up from what I currently have, but I don't want to buy another one in case I find that one uncomfortable too. Anyone else have issues with the BeBand/BellaBand? Are maternity jeans more comfortable?  I feel like I am just being finicky.

Re: When did you buy maternity pants?

  • I bought a pair of maternity pants by week 12-13 and was in them full time by 15-16.  They are so much more comfortable than the band, imo.

  • Hmm.. I really started wearing more maternity stuff between 12-14 weeks.. by 14 weeks I was almost exclusively in maternity bottoms..

For me, I don't mind the belly band going high up.. and so, all of the maternity jeans or pants I've purchased are also the full panel.. so I can't really comment on any other styles.. did you try "stretching out" your belly band a little to see if that makes it more comfortable?  I know with mine, if I wear it several days in a row, it gets kinda loose to begin with.. sometimes, I'll even just pop it in the dryer to shrink it back so that it would hold my pants up better, but again I was using it for a different reason.. I used the belly band, in the earlier weeks, over top of the maternity jeans to hold them up.. now that I've got more of a bump, I don't need it as often..

Anyway.. I think you just have to find what's most comfortable for you!  Check out Old Navy, Kohls or target maternity -- their clothes are a little less expensive and then you could just buy one pair of maternity pants to see how they work for you :)  They have "mid-rise" and "low-rise" maternity pants, so they might be more appealing as they won't come up as far!

    Best of luck!

  • I didn't like the BeBand at all. I wore low rise leggings in late first tri and probably started wearing maternity pants around 14 weeks, on and off.

  • I bought maternity jeans two weeks ago because the BeBand just wasn't enough.  The BeBand works well with my work pants, but my jeans always felt like they were going to fall down.

My maternity jeans fit me well, but also feel like they have room for me to grow a little bit.  I say go for it.  You won't regret getting maternity jeans early.

  • I bought my first pair of maternity jeans around week 14, and started wearing them immediately. I seriously fell in love with them. So much more comfortable than regular jeans! They were the ones with just a small panel in the back, so they still felt like regular jeans. I think I upgraded (downgraded?) to full blown under the armpit maternity jeans by 22 weeks.

I say buy what you're comfortable in! If regular jeans aren't working, invest in something else.

  • With em I was in then by 13-14 weeks this time I started wearing them at 8 weeks I have left over baby bump from em (my baby flap) And my bloat has made my flap into blump. Making me look 5-6 months not 9 weeks. Also had to go buy maternity panties because this child doesn't want anything tight on my belly and let's me know by making me sick.

  • i had jeans and cords from my last pregnancy, but no work slacks.  bought a few dresses around week 9-10 to help strech as my pants stoped fitting well with the band by then.  i've been in full mat pants/clothes since about week 12 or 13.

  • I was in maternity jeans by 13w - my bloat was so out of control, that it was the only thing that fit.

I tried the Belly Band, and hate it, my pants kept falling down - damn bubble butt. My SIL is 28w, and it still wearing her BeBand with her regular pants, and has no designs on buying maternity jeans.

  • Thanks ladies! I might have to go buy some ASAP, I've tried moving this band around all day, stretching it, and I am still uncomfortable. I too had left over baby bump/fat from my last pregnancy, and my bloating this pg has been AWFUL! Thanks again!

  • I bought them around 10 weeks and started wearing them around 12 weeks. I am almost fully in maternity pants (for all work pants I am) I still fit into my jeans.

I find them way more comfortable then the belly band which I had but totally annoyed me. My chub on my stomach would always be pushing it down, or it would roll up. It drove me nuts. I am also almost fully in maternity shirts just because I have no nice spring regular shirts that fit!

  • All I know is I waited TOO LONG to start wearing maternity clothes.  So much more comfy!  I liked the below the belly ones best for second tri.

    BFP#1 EDD 11/8/11 - MC @ 9w6d, 4/15/11 we said goodbye
    BFP#2 DD arrived 5/7/12
  • I'm in them now. I can still use the belly band on a couple of pairs of pants, but anything too tight on my tummy hurts a LOT, so maternity pants feel better for me.
  • I waited until after my 15 week appt...I was just to nervous to invest in buying anything really until I felt more comfortable.

But if your feeling like your pants are getting tighter go ahead and get some new clothes!
