Re: What are some products you could not live without while you are preggers...

  • not sure if it worked because I didn't use it religiously but I liked BioOil, definitely my snoogle pillow, old navy maternity leggings and the camisoles, my chiropractor and prenatal massage :)
  • Loading the player...
  • The only things I bought for pregnancy besides some maternity clothes (and prenatal vitamins) were a body pillow (got it for $15 from Walmart) sometimes I just use a regular pillow between my legs instead... and some bigger bras.  I bought nursing bras in hopes that they will be useful after I have the baby... don't know if I will need different ones when my milk actually comes in though.

I got most of my maternity clothes online from Babies R Us (Thyme brand) and from a second hand store... I'd definitely recommend looking at a second hand store first if you've got a decent one nearby... maternity clothes are only used for such a short period of time...

The biggest expenses are the things you will have to get for baby.

  • chiropractor, a couple maternity massages, TED hose, larger bras, maternity clothes, and money for whatever take-out I was craving...especially in the first trimester.

  • Belli Acne Face Wash & Elasticity Skin Oil, clementines, Spanx Power Mama support shapewear, supportive husband, larger bras

I think I was pretty low maintenance when ti came to my pregnancy! =) 99.9% of purchases have been for baby.

I didn't buy any maternity clothes, bought a Snoogle in 3rd trimester and hated it so I returned it.

I will be splurging on doing prenatal massages, pedicures and perhaps accupuncture over the next month.

  • Cocoa butter, lemon drops help with morning sickness, I use a boppy wedge to help me sleep, I love my tights and loose fitted dresses (old navy).  I bought some Sperry shoes to work in they are comfortable on the feet and will grow with the swelling. And an open mind.  You will get all kinds of compliments, suggestions, horror storeis and personal questions once you start to show.  Good luck and congratulations on being preggers!

There was nothing I couldn't live without, but I had an easy pregnancy... Crackers and gingerale were pretty important at one point, Tums are always on hand, but that's about it.

  • I agree, Tums are good to have on hand. Also a body pillow - I had one before I was pregnant, but now with an actually baby belly there's no way I could sleep without one.

  • I just wore lots of pajama pants and regular t-shirts from Gap and J.Crew.  Didn't buy any maternity clothes except for pants.

Otherwise, ginger ale, green apples, ice chips, body pillow and Tums. That's all!

  • At the moment, a good ice pack! It's been helping with some low back pain.

Id also recommend some comfy yoga pants or sweats, either maternity type or up a size from normal.

  • Tums, tums, tums, and oh, tums!  Besides that, my boppy body pillow, cocoa butter oil (hated the lotion smell) and sparkling water. Got a lot of maternity clothes from thrift shops (my mom is the queen of thrifting) and target.

    Good luck and congratulations!

  • I love my exercise ball. It's been great to bounce on when my hips and back hurt (which is all the time! Lol). It keeps me sitting up straight and just seems to fix the allignment of my hips. It's also nice to use to crack my back on when it's stiff.
Nevermind me, I'm too distracted by my mini-carrots to think properly image

  • like most of the ladies here, i could not have lived without my body pillow...it was definitely a lifesaver in getting some sleep:):)

also i would reccommend getting the most comfortable bras you can..i bought mine from motherhood, but really, you dont necessarily need nursing bras, anything comfy will do!! and also, leggings, you can get creative with a few maternity essentials, and whatever is in your closet when you have good pairs of leggings:)

    good luck!

  • The snoogle! My favorite thing during my pregnancy thus far. Runners up include Bravado! nursing bras, target and gap maternity clothes (sales all the time) and citrus hard candy for morning sickness. Also great to have comfy stuff to change into when you get home from work like yoga pants and a sweatshirt. Oh, and an exercise ball, seconding a pp on that, too. :)

  • if you have to get dressed up for work its worth it to buy some nice maternity pants. I bought some at gap at 12 weeks and wore them the whole time. I couldn't fit into non-maternity clothes for long (I was a large prepregnancy) so it was worth it to me to buy some clothes early on to wear the whole time
  • Congrats :)

In between not fitting in my regular pants and needing maternity pants I very much enjoyed the belly band. It doesn't work for everyone, though, so that's something to consider. Other than that, I use shea butter and maternity/nursing bras. The only other thing might be prenatal vitamins, but other than that I didn't really have to get any new products just yet. One of my friends did mention that since she was in the third tri over the summer she wore a lot of flats and flip flops which may have ruined her feet. Her podiatrist told her after that she would've been better with more supportive shoes, so something else to keep in mind.

  • Cocoa Butter/Bio Oil

Zantac 150 (Tums did not work AT ALL)

    Tiger Balm (back pain)

Benedryl (new allergies and also helps with sleep)

Hot tea and honey (decaffeinated, of course)

    Yoga Pants

    Hoodies

    Sports & Maternity bras

    Flip Flops & Slippers.

And The Business of Being Born is an awesome documentary..its on Netflix

    hth!

First tri - Sparkling drinks (I drank sparkling water and Izze sparkling juice) helped with my nausea.  The belly band helped when I was bloated and my clothes didn't fit right.

Second tri - Eh, more of the same from first tri.  I bought my maternity clothes at the beginning of second tri, too, but made some mistakes (bought non-stretchy pants and some shirts that weren't the most comfortable).  When you do buy maternity clothes, try to make them work for more than one season - I bought a lot of short-sleeved and sleeveless tops and wore them all winter with cardigans over them.  Now I can either wear them alone or with short-sleeved cardigans.

Third tri - Tums for hearburn, stretchy maternity clothes (yay for yoga pants), back/belly support band, nursing bras without underwire (heavenly), bath salts (helps with my back and with swelling), nice smelling lotion for DH to use for massages, a recliner/rocking chair for sleeping at the very end (seriously, I can't even really lie down on my side anymore), some new underwear for post-partum (I got black for the 6 weeks of bleeding; don't want to mess up my cute non-maternity underwear).

I agree 100% with short sleeved tops.  My temp has fluctuated like crazy and my office is never the same temp from day to day.  I'm in Ontario and I would have died this winter if I had just bought winter stuff.   Also, I only bought shirts that could be dressed up with a suit jacket or dressed down with jeans. I didnt want to spend the money on casual and work clothes.

  • Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Balm

Old Navy maternity clothing (always have good sales!)

My hockey jersey collection - they make perfect, casual maternity tops and look cute with leggings!

Sports bras and nursing bras a size larger than normal

Comfy undies - I got a value-pack of Fruit of the Loom cotton panties...that was if anything happened to them, I didn't care.

I don't think there is much that I *really* needed. I used cocoa butter, bio oil, and other creams but they are only as effective as your skin will let them be ;) However, always good to keep your skin moisturized. Yoga pants, and anything comfy, were probably my most prized possession throughout my pregnancy. Other than that... my acne cream and face moisturizer were my golden tickets to keeping my face looking healthy and normal. With all that said--other than the comfy pants, I could not have lived without Tums. I've actually grown to like them because I have to take them so regularly. I feel like most other pregnancy "things" are a gimmick. I bought about 4 pregnancy shirts and two pairs of jeans. Only now am I starting to kind of have to look hard for clothes to wear but am being induced in a week due to medical reasons--so, in terms of most actually maternity things, I got by without buying anything.

  • My biggest must haves:

-Snoogle- OMG this has been such a godsend.

-Old Navy maternity leggings (full panel)- have been seriously living in these since 12w or so

-I have also really loved longer cardigans that I bought from Old Navy. I probably could have survived without them, but they were definitely something that I didn't think I'd wear all that much and I have been shocked to find how much I wore them. My basic uniform right now is the full panel leggings, a tank top, and a long cardigan. I was surprised to find that my pre-pregnancy cardigans are not cutting it anymore :(

  • The only things for me have been frozen grapes, Tums, the GasX strips that melt on your tongue (awesome for heartburn) and nursing sleeping bras - I like the medela brand, comfortable and relatively inexpensive on amazon.

  • 1. Mother's Special Blend. https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-Special-Blend-Toning-Ounces/dp/B0001AF6Q2/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332169933&sr=8-1-spell  I put it on my tummy , boobs and potential saddle bags. I know they say that stretch marks are hereditary, but my mother had them, my grandmother had them....I do have them and have been using this oil religously since my first trimester.  They also help with my itchy skin. I use generous amounts right after I shower and rub it in really well.

    2. Fetal Doppler - This was a hard decision for me. I know that sometimes they can cause worry if you can't find the heartbeat. First of all, I never had that problem. Second, I had an early miscarriage with my last pregnancy and so I was a worry wart right from the beginning. Having the fetal doppler really helped ease my mind, especially late first and early second trimester.

    3. Vanilla Milkshakes - I had lost my appetite in the first trimester and have suffered from horrible heartburn in late second in third trimester. The vanilla milkshake was gerat in first because it gave me calories so it slowed my weight loss and calcium and it is a great help with heartburn and indigestion.

  • 1. Coconut oil- my skin got so dry and itchy and this is the only thing that really helps

    2. Yoga pants from Old Navy- super comfy.  I've been pleased with all of the maternity stuff I got there, but honestly, hit up a local second hand shop for a lot which was great

    3. My Starbucks cup. I have one of those double insulated cups from them with the straw- and I used to HATE ice in my drinks, but I learned quickly my 1st trimester that ice cold water/ginger ale was all I could keep down. That cup was a lifesaver when I went to work bc it kept all my ice from melting super fast.

  • Only 2 things I could NOT live without is Tums and Vitamin D milk.
