Dull needles on Lovenox injections?

I've been on Lovenox for about 24 weeks now and I think I've ran into a bad batch or something. The needles in this batch are so dull, I can hardly get them into my skin. I'll push the needle against my skin and it'll make a huge dent before it even punctures. I've never had this much trouble with them and not to mention, they hurt more when they're dull! I'm on Enoxaparin, the generic kind, and get my prescription filled at Wal-Mart. They switched suppliers months ago so I don't think that would be the problem as I haven't been having issues up until this week. Anyone else having issues?

Re: Dull needles on Lovenox injections?

  • I am also on the generic and have run into these dull needles! My DH does my shots and he is like "uh, it won't go in" and he has to push it so hard and I can actually feel it pierce my skin! Eck. I have read that the generic often times has these dull needles. One girl wrote that she had so much trouble that she makes her Dr. order only Lovenox and absolutely no generic. I am sure it's more expensive, but you are not the only one getting these dull lame needles!

  • I have not had a problem with my shots so far but I am on Lovenox not the generic. Have you been making sure to move around the area you stick yourself, I have noticed that if I do not and go in the same close area that it is harder to stick yourself because of tough skin and bumps. Also can you maybe switch to target or somewhere else to pick up your precriptions to see if that helps with the needles? If it does not get better, next time you are at your doctor's I would ask them about it they might have advice for ya. I hope it gets better for you!

  • I'm on the generic kind and I've had this problem since the start. Once they gave me a different generic and it wasn't like this. The head of the needle I use just seems so thick and, even though it is tapered where you push it in, it still hurts and I feel it most of the time.

  • Yes!  I haven't had a bad "batch" but I get one or two duds with each box.  I can't WAIT to be done with these injections.

Ditto. I got "real" lovenox when I was in the hospital with DD, and those needles were heaven. Much better than even a "good" generic needle. It was downright pleasurable getting the "real" lovenox shot.

  • I'm on Fragmin, but have the same trouble... only I never attributed it to the needles, I just figured some areas of my skin were tougher than others.  I usually just move over a little and it goes in.  I have managed to bend a needle once when trying to push it through my skin.  My sister teased me saying I had superman skin.
