If your LO signs...

Does he/she seem to know what the sign actually mean and use it at appropriate times?  The only sign Joey does consistently is "milk," and he does it ALL. THE. TIME.  He signs it before, during, and after a bottle, during all solid food feedings, and at other random moments throughout the day.  But if I say, "Joey, say milk," he will sign it on cue.   I'm still waiting for him to use it to help me figure out what he wants!  :)

Re: If your LO signs...

  • Des signs milk with me when I sign it to him. He also does the finger movements for milk when he wants picked up and I give him milk if he does or at least attempt too so he can associate that finger movement to milk. We go "Desmond do you want some milk..." and sign milk... and then he signs back milk and he usually gets it. I would like to think he knows that it means milk, but at this moment when we try to get him to wave bye... he signs milk...

  • Lo does the same thing. He used to sign more during solid food feeding but hasn't in a week or so.

  • My LO signs "more" when eating. Mostly when it involves yogurt melts (his fav). He doesn't tend to do it during purees, so for all I know, more means "yogurt melt" to him.

LO signs more when he hears the word more, including in church during the homily! He does "milk" instead of waving bye right now. I thought he thought my name was milk til he did the same to dad when he left the other day. But he knows what milk means when I sign it.  His mouth opens instantly.
