shooting while pregnant?

Hello all!

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and I'm wondering if anyone else on this board is an avid hunter or enjoys trap shooting? My husband and I love to shoot for sport and I'm wondering if there is any potential risk to the baby? I'm thinking I won't shoot after week 16 or so since (i think) the baby starts to develop ears in week 18(?), but this early in the pregnancy would it be a problem?

 Any advice is much appreciated, you ladies are always so hepful! :)

    I don't have an exact answer but I know my OB said that I couldn't hunt during deer season but I was 6 months along. I think it would be a good question for your nurse/midwife/OB.

    I'm LEO and worked up until my 1st Trimester with DS.  My OBGYN was fine with me shooting (on occasion, didn't want me doing it every single day).  I was put on light duty as of my second trimester. Our yearly qualifications happened in mid-June.  I was 8 months pregnant.  I didn't want to shoot at that point, so I didn't even ask.  My agency pretty much told me they would qualify me when I came back, so I didn't even sweat it.

    As always, I would ask your OBGYN.

    Shooting is fine and hunting is too. You're not going to hurt the babies ears, you've got alot of sound dampering cushion in there. And I wouldn't stop at 16weeks, nor will I. Most peoples concern is lead exposure, simple solution lead free ammo.

    I've been shooting every weekend since our BFP.  We're leaving for a hunting trip in three weeks.  While I have not thought twice about it, my husband has expressed some concern.  I do plan to double check with my OB during Monday's appointment, and can certainly let you know her opinion if you'd like.  Thanks for bringing this up!

    I would most definitely appreciate it. My first appointment isn't until Thursday, so I'll ask my OB then too, it's always good to get multiple opinions! :)

    I'm also an LEO and was told as long as you arent in a high lead facility and have plenty of ventilation (which if you are outdoors thats good) its okay to shoot during the first tri.  But make sure to thouroughly wash your hands and clothing afterwards for any residue that may be left behind.  I would still reccommend asking your OBGYN for his/her opinion.  Regardless of what my OB has said in the past the women employed at my agency are not allowed to go to the range for qualification throughout their entire pregnancy to err on the side of caution.

    I was told shooting is perfectly fine and I plan on hunting in my last trimester. I was just told I can't climb a tree stand in case I fall.

    I don't think it's the sound more as the impact on your body if you're using a high powered shotgun/rifle. I'm a light person and it pushes my body back no matter how padded I am.

    thank you for posting this.  i actually need to get the re cert on my conceled permit and was concerned about going to the range to get my required time in. if you could please let me know what your ob says i would appericate it as i dont see mine for two weeks.

    Just like everyone above has stated it is totally fine.  I was up in a deer stand hunting while I was 5 months pregnant with my son and was shooting up until that day too.  I will be shooting this summer too but just no deer hunting since our season is the first weekend in Nov and I am due Nov 1.  This is the first year I will miss since my husband and I have been together.

    As one pp mentioned you need to be very careful about lead exposure. After doing some research I decided I wasn't going to risk it. I know others that say its fine so it's all about your comfort level.
