July Bridesmaid

Hi all, I'm supposed to be a bridesmaid in July in my BIL wedding.  We have told them in case they didn't want a pregnant bridesmaid.  I was looking at the dress again today and now I'm not sure if I should tell her I'm having second thoughts.  Please, what are your thoughts on wearing this dress pregnant (I think I'll be about 25 weeks)?

Re: July Bridesmaid

  • I don't see any issue will wearing the dress pregnant.  You'll just have to have alterations to accomodate for your baby bump.

  • If you are thinking of dropping out do it now. Do not wait. Our Best man dropped out and left us high and dry only months before the wedding. Thank god my husband had a really good friend that should have been the best man anyway step up. The worst thing you can do is wait and not tell them soon so they can make changes. I don't think there would be an issue with the dress. If you think so why not talking to them about having a different style dress for you but the same colour. A lot of people have different styles dresses for their bridesmaids but the same colour. Either way I would do it now because July is just around the bend. Good luck!

  • There's no way i'd drop out...if they're a good enough friend that the'd ask you to be in their wedding..then they're not going to care if your dress needs altered.  If you really feel uncomfortable in that particular style...talk to the bride about a different style..similar and in the same color as the original.  She may just agree.

  • I think it will be just fine. However I think the couple possibly not "wanting a pregnant bridesmaid" or considering "dropping out" is absurd.

  • I'm not considering dropping out, at all.  And the dress is not uncomfortable, the material is soft and stretchy.  Its just that all the pregnant bridesmaids I see have loose, flowing dresses.  I just don't know what I'm agreeing to look like for the wedding! :)  I guess it will be fine and if I look horrible, I'll have a really good excuse. :)  Thanks for the feedback ladies!

  • I'm in the same boat as you as I'm in a wedding the last weekend in June and will be 24 weeks (i think). My dress is already in, and while it's a little big now, the store said it won't fit by June...even if they let it out a size.  I guess I'll have to order another dress, which stinks.  I would definitely talk to the store.  Nordstrom might have the same dress in maternity...you never know!  Otherwise, I'd order big, b/c they told me it's easier to make the dress smaller than larger.  GL!

  • I don't see a problem. I would just make sure that whoever is doing your alterations know that you are pregnant..

  • I am in the same boat. I am in one of my best friend's weddings and I already have my dress but the dress is huge on me right now and I will be 5 months in July. I called over at the dress store where we got the dress and talked to their seamstress and I'm going to make an appt. with her so she can see the dress on me and see if she thinks I may need extra material or major alterations. My dress is a chiffon which flows very nicely so I think I should be fine but I still wanted to check with the seamstress since I haven't exactly told the bride yet. I'm trying to wait a little longer before I tell her but at least I looked into fixing any dress problems so I don't stress her out a little bit. lol
