Adoption

Introduction

Good morning!

I just wanted to introduce myself since DH and I are starting the adoption process and I will probably have lots of questions! We've been TTC for a year and w/ clomid for the last 3 cycles with no success. We've always been interested in adoption, even before we started TTC, but had planned on having a couple bio children before adopting. We don't really want to do any advanced fertility treatments for right now so we're moving on to adoption!

We've been researching for a couple months and were originally absolutely set on international adoption but the last few days we've been considering domestic. The fact that adoption policies in other countries can change so quickly makes us really nervous (esp since we were mostly looking at Russia and have read some less-than-encouraging statements about adoption from Putin recently). Oddly enough, the domestic process is much more confusing to me! How did you start researching agencies for domestic? Anyone have an agency that they would recommend? I've read the FAQ above and we read a book that mostly focused on international adoption so I'm going to buy a more general adoption book today. Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Introduction

  • DH and I have been researching domestic adoption the past few weeks.  I started by looking for local agencies online and attending as many free seminars as possible.  I also sent a lot of e-mails with a standard list of questions and that helped filter quite a few of them out.  There are a lot of agencies and it's hard to know you're going with the right one, but I think researching as much as you can will help give you piece of mind.  Also, I found someone on here that is currently working with the agency I will probably go with and she's given me lots of information, so that's been great too.  Good luck!

  • Welcome! We're also looking at domestic adoption for some of the same reasons. I don't know anything about agencies in Mass, but we're using Bethany Christian Services in PA. I checked their website (bethany.org), and they have offices in North Andover (https://www.bethany.org/northandover) and Whitinsville, MA (https://www.bethany.org/whitinsville).

We're still very new to the adoption process, but I have a few friends from church who used BCS in the past and were very happy with them, so I feel comfortable using them.

  • Thanks for the help! We actually moved back to NY about a month ago- I'm not sure why it still says Mass even though I changed my address on the bump. There is a BCS in NYC so I have been looking into their program- glad to hear your friends had good experiences with them. Good luck!
