ultrasound at 4 weeks?

Due to brown spotting, I had a transvaginal ultrasound today. I had a different doctor than I usually do and she was not the best. She said I just looked like I was very early (which I am). She couldn't see anything, but she didn't do a good job of explaining if that's normal for where I'm at (4 weeks and 4 days). I asked her and she said, we'll just have to wait and see. Obviously, I know you are not going to see much at this point...but should she have been able to see anything at all showing that I am pregnant? Should she have been able to see even a speck that is the sac? Or is it normal to see nothing at all right now? Ugh, the appointment did not ease my mind too much.

Re: ultrasound at 4 weeks?

  • It is pretty normal that she would see nothing.  Try and stay positive.

  • If you're only 4w4d then technically your LO is only 2w4d.  It's normal to not be able to see anything.  I know it's hard, but just try to relax and stay positive.

  • I went into the doctor's at 5wks 3days for the same thing.  When I got there they told me they would look to see if they could see anything but since it was early they might not be able to see anything.  So this seems pretty normal.  Sending positive thoughts your way.  GL

  • I went in at 4 weeks but thought I was 6. The doctor told me I wasn't prego lol. She told me to go back in a month....I did and there was my peanut. I am stuck in Mexico for sometime and I don't seem to be a fan of the doctors here. The seem so rude! Can't wait to go back home :)

Hang in there and don't stress!

  • I went in for my first doctors appointment thinking I was about 8 to 10 weeks along. We in for my u/s and low and behold there wasn't anything there but a yolk sack. At that point she estimated I was about 4 weeks. So yes it is normal not to see anything there at this point.   Don't worry yourself too much.  :)

  • Do you know what your beta was?  If it's under 1200, nothing will be visible on the ultrasound.  Usually at 5 weeks is when you would first see something, and it would just be an empty gestational sac.  It's just too early to tell at this point.

  • I went in today myself for spotting at 5w3d and had a transvaginal. All they could find was a gestational sac and a yolk sac. My doctor explained how it's completely normal to not see baby yet so I don't think you have to worry at all. We barely saw anything and are about a week further along! :) Give it time.. I'm sure it's fine! <3
